FOTESS MARCH SWAP: Fairy Garden-Fairy Princess (or Other Royalty)

This swap and the games are for members of FOTESS which stands for Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps. We have a swap (or at least photos and conversation) here each month. We try to keep things simple so it's not a burden to participate. If you are interested in joining, you may contact me (Jeanne) and I'll send you the information. The games and swaps are limited to FOTESS members.


I thought it might be nice to have a bit of a magical month as the season breaks into Spring. Anyone have or want to add to or start a fairy garden? You can particiate with that in mind or you can consider Fairy Princesses and Royalty. Ideas of what to send: Card (handmade or bought), seeds, gift tags, a few blank notecards, a little yummy snack for the recipient. You get the idea. Maybe with Princess of Orange you can send something orange (Candy? Tea? Flower seeds that bloom orange?) Snow White includes ideas like a red bow, a mirror and an apple. Plenty of ideas once you start to think about it.


If you want to sign up for the swap please post here by March 6. I will post names the next day. Mail by March 17 (woo-hoo – St. Patrick's Day!) You will send 3 small items. Select these according to what you like, but based on the theme.

A POINT GAME: Earn up to 2 points by doing these 2 things - choosing a special name for March (don't actually change your Houzz name, but post this name in the comments for the month – once selected by someone do not duplicate by using that one) and tell us a little about the name of the person or plant you selected. Each should related to a flower with some type of royal reference or a person we might recognize as a fairy or royalty. You can look through the Bingo list for some ideas. Second point is for the picture used as your avatar next to your post. Change your avatar so it somehow goes with the name you selected. I know in the past some had difficulty making this change but we'll see if it works this time.

Idea if you want to use it: What you send can relate to the name you chose or the name chosen by the recipient. Otherwise, just think in terms of the Fairy Garden – Fairy Princess (Royalty) theme.

I will also post some occasional questions that will count as 1 point each for the first person to post the right answer. A prize for Bingo and a prize for points. Members, join us this month!

    I would like to be the DAFFODIL FAIRY. According to Cicely Mary Barker, when a seed sprouts, a Flower Fairy baby is born, living in their chosen flower. As the flower grows, the fairy grows too, and is in charge of looking after their flower or plant, keeping it strong and healthy by making sure it has plenty of sunshine and water, sweeping away dead leaves, and polishing flowers and stems.

    The image of the Daffodil Flower Fairy is one of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies first published in Flower Fairies of the Spring, London, Blackie, 1923. These Fairy Prints were quite small measuring approximately 3 x 4.2 inches with ample margins for mounting and framing. I love daffodils!

    And yes, I will swap in March.
