Mount light at 45 degree angle in skylight
Comments (0)I am looking for help and advice regarding how to mount a light at a 45 degree angle. We have a skylight above our kitchen prep island and would like to mount a light up here to light our prep area. Unfortunately, with white cabinets and white countertops, there's a lot of white already. We've tried two LED solutions (Philips Lederno 2-light and 3 light directional spotlights) but found they did not dim sufficiently (even with uber expensive ELV dimmer as spec'd). In proximity of the same area, we have the Varaluz Fascination light over our breakfast table (love it). We have just received the Varaluz 2 light bathroom sconce and would like to mount it at a 45 degree angle, so that the lights do not shine directly into the eyes of the prep area staff. The fixture will be mounted approximately 6' above the island countertop. Any suggestions on how to do this would be very much appreciate; DH is most handly. Here's the light held up at the normal mounting angle (against different wall): Here it is held at the desired 45 degree angle (though not at height at which it would be mounted): And here is a closeup of the backside of the light - please ignore wine glass to the left, added only for help in determining scale :) Looking for advice on how to mount the light at a 45% angle above the prep area. Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!...See MorePlease help me find chairs/light for dining/breakfast table
Comments (11)Thanks for the feedback, yayagal and walnut creek. I was beginning to get nervous about the black. I don't know if you looked at the Thomas armchair, but that is quite simple. When not in use, I was going to place them in front of the window where the low red/goldish chairs are now. I was getting them in a pretty seafoamish-sage green because all my furniture in the adjoining family room is cream. To go with them, I was thinking of these aimple mission style side chairs, in black, but maybe now to match the table, with the same green upholstery seats. Thoughts, photos? Comments (3)On the island pendants I can see what you mean in the 2D representation, but I don't think they would look strange at all when you're actually in the room in 3D. Same with the billiard light. Does the alternative idea with 3 pendants mean no lighting over the island at all? That doesn't seem functional with only the recessed light behind you. If you kept the pendants over the island, I think that solves the height issue because they'll be far enough away from the edge of the counter where DH is standing. On the light balance in the room, I think what you're planning is very normal and will look fine in an open floorplan. I am personally not a fan of recessed lights--I would have just kept that opinion to myself, except I get the feeling you're not either? What if you replaced some/all of the cans with ceiling fixtures? In my smaller kitchen in 1915 home, for general lighting I have 2 schoolhouse lights and for task lighting I have sconces at the window and entryway, undercabinet lights, and pendants over the peninsula. It is so much light! Though maybe it just seems that way compared to the one sad boob light that was there before. Anyways, recessed lights are very popular and maybe weird pet peeve of mine, so if you've made peace with it, don't let me stir up trouble. Good luck!...See MoreSo these lights go together?
Comments (6)I DO NOT think the french country fixture belongs in your living room the cage style you picked for the dining area is transitional enough. The french country is just that. Also, that tiny bit of gold on the candle cover will not be noticeable when the fixture is hung. Yes, they go together Im just not sold that they work in your space....See MoreRelated Professionals
