W daylilies 2025
We are getting close to the end….too fast. I am looking forward to seeing Kate’s blooms a nd Kay’s if she is still around.
When Pigs Fly left the garden, sooo slow to increase and splotchy blooms.
Woman at the Well….I enjoy the different color combo in this daylily. It has been a good addition, good increase and increasing bud count.
Witch’s Stick is a late bloomer
Witch King of Anamar great blooming its first season here, thick substance. Great work Nancy and Bob!
Wide wide World a nice oldie. it got moved, hope it does well this season.
When My Sweetheart Returns melts quickly in the sun. It is growing in mostly shade and does well under the circumstances.
Winifred Esther had good increase in the three seasons it has been here.

2 months agoI think my favorite is Wide Wide World. The blend of colors is so appealing. I like Witch King of Anamars deep velvetty purple. One thing though, where is Anamar? Figuring it's mythical of course..........I have only one W. One of my favorites. A Hensley red:

Comments (17)I see several N's here that I used to grow. Nile Princess was a decent performer for me, but the seedlings I got out of it were all surprisingly ugly. I loved North Wind Dancer despite its leaning scapes, but it didn't make the final cut. I chose not to bring dips or lates with me. No Boys Allowed never had a bud count higher than 9 and was a reluctant pod setter, so it got left behind. The photos of it posted here show how striking the blooms are. It always multiplied well and was quite photogenic - especially in a clump. Kate - I'm surprised Neon Flamingo hasn't multiplied well for you. It was a good multiplier for me - except in drought years. I sold several divisions and gave some fans away over the years. Navajo Pony is one I'm always drawn to, but it never did much for me. Mantis - Navajo Warrior and Nelson Mandela are both beauties - even if they are only 5 inchers. Natalie Antoinette looks good! I would like to have that one again, especially if it grows well in a northern climate. Sherry - That pic of Night Moves is gorgeous! Nan - I love Now or Never! Good to know a DeVito does well for you. I'm hoping So Irresistible will thrive here. Brad - Lovely photo of NWD! Your seedlings from it look great. I especially like the one with Carmen Renee as the other parent. Is that one a late bloomer? Here's my photo of Nile Princess from last year. It's now growing in three friends' gardens. Comments (16)Once Over Lightly--I too like the white midrib. Orange Velvet is nice, but a bit of a space hog here. O'Bannon Orchid looks interesting. Are the scapes strong on this diploid? Omega Red is a tall bloomer with large flowers. One for Steve did well in 2023, but wasn't memorable in 2024. Blooms just above the foliage. One Last Dance was quite attractive last summer. Here it catches the morning rays. Another pic later in the day. Some sneer at those who still relish Moldovans. Since they usually grow vigorously, the price is too low for some. I remember one person haughtily noting on Facebook: "I don't buy anything for less than $50." Origins of Totalitarianism. I think Curt chose this name because it is hard to pronounce. Comments (30)I just realized I didn't post a photo of Royal Invitation, which is one of the best Emmerichs I grow. It's a great multiplier and rebloomer and was taller for me than registered. I didn't get a photo of it last year, but here are a couple from previous seasons. Sometimes it's toothy, and sometimes it's not. In cool temps it has mostly a white edge, and in high heat the edge is cream and gold. Royal Invitation Royal Invitation clump I got some dynamite kids from it, which unfortunately got left behind. This Davisson is not that tall, but quite attractive both in color and cascading form. Tigrillo Afternoon. Nice blend of colors; later blooming. Tattered Heart. Tall plant; large flowers. The Food Channel did well this past season. Toucan Sam did better in 2023. Was divided. Tahiti Sweetie was better budded in 2023 than in this 2024 pic. Teeth of Iron. Difficult to capture the dark color of this Emmerich. Not fast growing. Taller than picture suggests. Tactical Deception --a smoky color that I find appealing. The Dream Society. While it didn't perform as well in heat and drought, this later bloomer did show its deep color. A Hanson out of Moldovan lines. Moderate increaser. Tao of Physics. Out of Worlds Collide. The X Files. Performed very well in 2024 (Hanson). Twitch (This Davisson looks promising.) Another Thomas Tew. Good height, though bud count is typical of older Stamiles. Truth Teller. For those who are wondering. the Witch King of Angmar is a character in Tolkein's Lord of the Rings. He is one of the nine ring wraiths, servants of the bad guy Sauron.
I bought Waves Become Wings because it was late blooming. I am not a fan of these pastel colors, so it will probably leave the garden soon.
We have gotten some interesting seedlings out of Weasel Teeth, especially when crossed with reds.
Whatchamacallit is a Stella sized diploid. It's supposed to be a good rebloomer, but we have sort of neglected it so we haven't seen that much rebloom.
We are into reverse bicolors/bitones and Whoa Mule is a good one. The flower is on the small side, but the scapes are tall.
Here is our Wide Wide World. I think it has some of the prettiest color in the garden.
Here is our clump of Wild and Wonderful.
I wish Wispy Ray's scape was a little taller.

White Ambrosia is an evergreen. I hope it makes it through the winter. It was a good performer and rebloomer in Nashville.

I brought three White Tooth seedlings with me. I meant to bring four, but things don't always turn out the way you planned. I probably should wait and put these on the seedling posts, but I have so few W's, I decided to go ahead and put them here.White Tooth X Skater 4 is the tallest (34 inches) and best multiplying of the seedlings. It's semi-evergreen and shows some blue tones in the patterned sepals on cool mornings.
White Tooth X Skater #5 is an evergreen. It has the best set of teeth and is a good multiplier, but it is short (25 inches). Whether it will survive the winter is anybody's guess.
White Tooth X Skater 3 is the best budded (18) and an excellent rebloomer, but it multiplies slowly. A semi-evergreen, it holds its color on the hottest days.

last monthlast modified: last monthWispy Rays has varied in height here. Progeny Painted Demon is more consistent in height and bloom, though the size and sizzling watermark of Wispy is hard to beat. Aaron Brown, another kid, can also have some off years. No picture this year.
Woodside Amethyst is an attractive color. I agree that Which Way Jim is a good deep color. Wolfman is quite pricey, I see. Wrenetta didn't do well here.

Wine in the Gazebo has a rich color and nice eyezone/watermark. Around 26 -28 inches here.
Witch King of Angmar is a fairly new plant here that has had to endure two difficult summers. Attractive coloration, but has been so far much closer to 5 than 6 inches.
Wild Cherry Wine. Like most dips, it takes a while to recover from division.
I have better pics from other years of Willow Dean Smith.
White Icon is large and very white, but not a fast multiplier
Woot Woot. A newer plant. It will be interesting to see its varying forms.
