That second picture with what looks like a shadow line but is actually where a shadow was and prevented the rest of the leaf from burning. Any leaf burn is permanent and cosmetic only. It will not spread. If it was too severe it would turn black and you could trim off that portion. I believe that part of the leaf is still doing some work to help the plant grow so leave it alone. As far as what kind of orchid is it - I have an idea but I'd like to see some better pictures of the p[seudobulbs. Has it flowered and if so do you have pictures?

stitzeweller I did not realize that being concise and to the point was leaving a photo "naked" I guess (One of my Cymbidium Goeringii I sold to a collector last year on e-bay.) was inappropiately concise and to the point I don't have any questions or comments to accompany this picture because if an enthusiast should have a question I will be more than happy to provide them with the information . Otherwise incessant rambling and overaccompanying text can really garble up the simplicity of the statement just a simple picture can make. Also thank you for informing me of something that I am well aware of that there is an accompanying photo gallery in most if not all of the forums. Did you check to see that I am a founding member here at Gardenweb and have been a member since 2001? I rather enjoy when people share their photos in the groups I am a member of because not everyone makes it to the gallery regularly so if one is going to the trouble to share with the broadest audience possible it is often easiest to simply post to the discussion part of the forum. If you are the administrator for this group please remove my inappropriate listing as such that it has violated any of the rules or regulations for this are. Sweetcicely you may offer me 100,000 dollars for this orchid but it has already been sold along with the rest of my collection over a year ago during financial hardship so in remembrance and appreciation of my collection I thought some other enthusiast may benefit from seeing a plant not common in most peoples collections due to the specific cultural requirements necessary for appreciating such a beauty. Maybe the other silent forum members may appreciate my sharing but maybe I will think twice before posting any pictures to the Orchid Forum. A. - do not go for more violets yet. The first one usually is doomed to die - because it is a part of a learning curve. Even African Violet Master judges have their first violet killed 30 some years before. Double ceramic self watering pots killed more violets than all diseases, pests and Roundup together. Some people manage to use them successfully - but it is not easy. And IMHO - it is counterproductive. You potted your plant too deep - you buried leaf petioles - and you overpotted it. I would take the plant out, remove outside circle of leaves - you still have some damaged ones - and pot it in a cheap plastic pot with a diameter 1/3 of a leaf span. Orchid growers have perlite handy - I would put a half inch layer of perlite on the bottom of the pot to increase aeration, water poor thing - and let it be. The soil should be humid - but no water in a saucer. The idea is to maintain high humidity of the air and barely humid soil - I bet in your orchid room there is plenty of humidity. High light - it is either orchids or pot - and pot seems more like work to me - while orchids are definitely passionate hobby. Here is Cymbidium heaven and I have some bad news for you. They are not good indoors plants. In fact they need weather to bloom. That is summer night temps where the average minimum temperature is not above 20C. And a "winter" where the average temperature might be Low Average 7C High average about 17C. They are cool tolerant down to about 2C. In the USA think Coastal California where the afternoon sea breeze coming off a cold Pacific Ocean cools the plants down after a warm sunny day. There are some bred to tolerate warmer conditions in Florida. Cymbidium Golden Elf is one. The Cymbidium experts here grow them in a sort of pot bound condition and move them up to a bigger pot frequently until they get to maximum size pot, then they divide the plant and start again. Plant needs 4 or 5 growths to bloom, so keep that in mind when the plant gets too big to manage. Sorry, I have nil Cymbidiums so this is just observation.
