I need to change my response. I could have sworn that our master closet was the same color as the MB (SW Blonde) and I know that it was supposed to be, but today I looked at the closet and the walls and ceiling are both SW Dover White! My husband changed a lot of the paint colors on his own (GRRR!--he's afraid of color) and this is one change that I missed, but after thinking about it I'm glad that it is light color as we only have one small window in the closet so it would have been dark. We have 3 other walk-in closets and they all have SW Dover White walls and ceilings and don't match the rooms that they are attached to.

I don't see how a tub would fit too, short of putting it where the dresser is. I don't think you'd want to bathe in the closet though :-) I would suggest not having the only shower entrance via the WC. What if you switched the shower and WC, and had them both open into the bathroom, but keep the second door by the toilet to open into the bedroom? Then you could slip in to, uh, you know, then go out the other door to access the sink, then back to bed. Looks very nice, I bet you will love it!

I appreciate all the quick responses! To answer columbusguy1 and ks_toolgirl, none of the new shelves and rods would be hung at the height of the original strips, so I thought it would be better to remove them (silly me). I probably could have worked around them, though, and in retrospect, that might have been a better choice. This is the largest bedroom closet in the house, and it's 3 by 5 1/2 feet. I know what you mean about small closets, though--I once rented a flat with a tiny triangular closet in one bedroom. It held about three hangers. It must have worked better when it had hooks. Speaking of hooks, ks_ toolgirl, I'm glad you can offer some to columbusguy1--mine are being reused in other areas of the house. Casey and palimpsest, thanks for the ID of the sand-float finish in the area under the mounting strips. How do I prepare it for painting? I don't think it needs to be smooth. The painted areas of the closet walls are not completely smooth--they have a "sandy" quality that I had attributed to a sand additive in a previous coat of paint. In fact, most of the walls in the house have a slightly bumpy finish to them. I see that columbusguy1 suggested doing a skim coat of joint compound or plaster. If I don't need to match smooth walls, do I skip that coat? Do I prime it, and if so, with what sort of primer? I saw that someone had mentioned a Farrow & Ball product on another thread, but I do not have access to Farrow & Ball, so other brands would be preferable. Thanks again for your assistance. Linda

All the plans have a trade-off in room shape, cost etc. I agree that putting the bathroom in bedroom #4, the room width is the trade off. The bedroom width is currently 10'10". If I look at the adjacent master bathroom toilet cubicle, it's not much wider than the closet in bedroom #4. So the closet is probably 24" and the master bathroom cubicle 30". If the OP is OK with a 30" width then the middle plan may be the best one, since it only takes 6" off the width of the bedroom making it 13'10" x 10'4", and eliminating any door swing into the room.
