Comments (7)Hi Gonzo, I see that you are in Canada, but please tell about your natural light conditions, as they vary widely from place to place. Do you have a window exposure? If so, in what direction does it face? Does it ever provide direct sunlight (how many hours?), or is it always indirect? All summer my phals have only indirect light at a roof-overhung ESE exposure. When the temps drop in Fall, they spike. Because the sun has moved, morning light on the Phals has to be screened to prevent baking of the leaves. I never allow the sun to shine on the spike tip, before or after bloom. (It only takes minutes to cook or wilt these tender parts.) Despite a lot of winter overcast (our rainy season) my phals bloom in the dead of winter (Dec and Jan) with a lot of flowers that last into April and May. I never use lights. Gonzo, I'm questioning whether you need artificial light on your phal at all. Phals are not high light orchids. They grow toward the light, because that's what (most) plants do, but like Icarus, they can perish from the heat/dryness of the light they covet. Even the first spike you mention was probably close enough to the light shade to wither from its drying effect. If the phal were mine--and even if it "needed" artificial light to make it spike--I would gradually move it Well Away from the lights, once the spike was half grown. Then, I would try to be patient, knowing that a spike (from start to finish) can dawdle around for two to four months before finally (!) opening. Sounds to me like your phal clearly "wants" to bloom for you. Woo her tenderly, and, for heaven sakes, turn out the lights! Sweetcicely...See MoreMy new furniture has arrived!! Help me accessorize...
Comments (10)In the living room, how about pulling your couch out from the wall to about where that little chair is. You can use the outlet that is there for your lamps, just put the extension cords under the sofa and tables. This will help bring your seating area together. Right now they look like islands in a sea of a very pretty room :) Since you will have all this room behind the sofa, consider a tall case piece to display books, plates, or whatever you like to look at. I know it's not nice to say this, but I hate those type of recliners. They make them look nice and streamlined now, instead of big and poofy. Would your DH consider a different style of recliner? Something with regular arms and a tighter back would compliment your sofa. Is the chair and a half new, too? Depending on how you feel about that piece, you could return it and get two smaller scale chairs with a little table in between for a second seating area. Your room shape is a lot like mine only I have an entrance at one end that takes up some room. I put my couch across from the fireplace then two chairs opposite, each flanking the fireplace. DH gets a prime viewing spot and I get to lay down on the couch every night and watch TV! Here's a pic of how I did mine. Comments (2)Why does everybody think "Google" has the answer to every question? According to the fan Specifications, the fan comes with three B10 shape, E12 base, 4-watt, 3000K frosted LED bulbs. Those bulbs put out 300 "initial lumens" each, so you could try 500 lumen bulbs: Home Depot (2700K), 1000 bulbs (3000K)....See MoreThis room has me stumped!!
Comments (111)Amy, I looked but could not see her suggestion listed. I thought that i was done but Last night your situation touched my heart because I remembered how I felt about my room and feeling blocked. So I put together a rendition with the thought; "What would I do if this room was mine and my husband's?" So with your blessing I will take some pics of what I did just for your consideration. Remember, these are only my suggestions but the final decision is all yours. So let's see what you think and what will really work. In this the focus is the layout of the room the furniture is relevant but secondary because if we can get the room to do what You want than the furniture will literally fall into place....See MoreRelated Professionals
