Boring Mantle - Decorating Help Needed
Comments (33)Thanks for the additional suggestions -- - So for those who say that the white mat is too stark (and I can see your point) What would you suggest instead? - Oopsie - Are you suggesting I rest the painting on the mantle? - Barb - I tried the light pot up there, but thought it just looked like pot-pot-pot... The clock was a different type and material, so it broke the pot-pot-pot thing -- though I agree it's not perfect. A 'horsehair pot' gets it's decoration from horesehair dribbled onto the hot pot straight out of the kiln. That's what gives it the smoky brown haze effect and ridged lines -- actual burned hores hair. - CrazyOne - The fireplace stone is cultured stone in the Chardonnay color, Southern Ledgestone pattern. The seat and mantle are natural limestone slabs. And while it's supposedly legal for wood-burning, we prefer the instant gratification of gas, so that's what we use. No glass or curtain -- but if I find exactly the right screen someday... Here is a link that might be useful: Horse Hair Pottery...See Moreremove fireplace & new floorplan?
Comments (13)What a nice problem to have. If you must remove a charming fireplace, how about replacing it with an equally charming built-in sideboard and hutch? Not from your cabinet line but looking as if it might have always been there? It'd provide great storage and be part of a handsome transition between rooms--no workaday kitchen appliances or cabinets right by the doorway. (I imagine you are putting a wall or good finishing panel on the side of the refrigerator where it is now?) Also, I'd personally definitely keep the existing appliances in the work U. You mention nothing you'd like to gain to offset the inconvenience of trotting back and forth. In a perfect world, the refrigerator would always somehow be right by the stove anyway for another splash of milk or pat of butter. :)...See Morewhat is the most boring
Comments (72)Clearly from this thread alone monologues are a recurring cause of boredom. With again the long winded delivery being more of a problem than the inherent nature of the content. Content that would not have the same effect if presented in small doses. I find in discussions with people I know that not only do I start to lose interest if they try to talk about something for more than a short time but it goes both ways. So that I am frequently and repeatedly interrupted if I don't complete each thought very quickly. Anecdotes in particular seem to have little place in contemporary verbal conversation, if my experiences are any indication. Of course anybody that is living a busy life will be in the habit of not putting too much time into something that is not on their list of personal priorities. And may just be too tired at the moment to maintain interest in what is being said. As was the case recently when one of my long time friends dosed off a couple times during a phone chat with me. One where I was not droning on....See MoreHelp with mantle decor- too bare!
Comments (32)As to colors: poppy floral art and rug - both have orangey- red? you could zing with 3rd orange [glass bowl type thing]. Or just keep the blues, brown sofa, etc., and have enough going. if this didn't work? can wear it... their display photo, see dark / grey chair with it. https://www.etsy.com/listing/940959810/100-luxurious-soft-silk-vibrant-green?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=peacock+blue&ref=sr_gallery-1-4&bes=1...See MoreRelated Professionals
