I really don't understand how anyone can buy a rug online. I have to at least see it in person to know if the colors are right. Monitors and the lighting when the pic is taken vary so greatly. Heck I've brought so many rugs home over the years. I want to be sure that what I've chosen is going to compliment the entire area around where it is being used. How do you do that with an online rug? However, I have seen a good amount of dissatisfied posters who've received a rug that was not as represented by Overstock or another seller. Who picks up the return cost? As far as the posters who are poo pooing buying a good quality rug (travel to Turkey, etc) and then link to JC Penney rugs, what a hoot. Obviously the OP has something a little different in mind with her stated budget. Also, I get a kick out of people professing to travel to a place where they would be in the total minority and have no idea of where to go and how to haggle with the rug sellers, let alone figure out the exchange rate. Have you ever been to Turkey? Really.

I'm considering this sink as well. I like how the cutting board can go across the drainboard, if I need the entire sink available. And you can use the colander and cutting board at the same time because they are at different levels. This must be a new design, as I can't find much on it. Amazon has two 5 star reviews. I don't see how install would be a problem. Basically the drainboard is taking the place of the countertop. Currently I like the Kohler Karbon faucet for its functionality. Looks-wise, not so much, but I can live with it for good function. It's better than a pullout faucet because you can let go and it will stay in any place, where a pullout would just flop down or retract back to the base.

Like pal said you could make it a wet room. You could look for pictures of bathrooms on boats for inspiration. When I did college visits with my daughter, one of our hotel rooms had a tiny bathroom. (Kellogg Center at Michigan State, if by any chance you happen to live near there.) I wish I hadn't deleted the pics I took but I'll try to describe... front left corner was the door; back left corner was sink; back right corner was toilet. The shower was in the front right corner with a ceiling mounted shower head. There was a ceiling mounted track for a shower curtain and a drain in that area. When the curtain was open it was not at all in the way and the shower floor space just became part of the room. (There was no curb or step around the shower it was just one continuous floor in the bathroom.) There was a teak mat in front of the sink in case the whole floor got wet. I don't remember but I'm sure the floor had to be slightly sloped toward the drain. I wouldn't want it as my only bathroom but it certainly worked for our short term use and I think would work OK for occasional use. Your layout above would not work with a walled shower because, as mentioned, you wouldn't have room to get to the toilet. But with a ceiling mounted shower head (so it sprays down, not out toward the room) and a ceiling mounted track for a shower curtain that you could push aside, it *might* work. Obviously the floor would need to slope toward a drain under the shower head.

I am dealing with tile size and proportion with my small fireplace now. I would strongly suggest mocking both sizes up in person. I predict the answer will be clear to you immediately if you do that. Tile that is too big for a small space can look really weird because only a few tiles cover the whole space. There isn't enough tile repetition for it to look right. You could continue your counter top material up just behind the sink to take care of the window issue. Like this:
