Suggestions for exterior paint colors?
Hello All,
My condo community is asking advice for exterior colors - We must use multiple colors and break up the ”blank wall” as required by city code to avoid a solid wall, without dimension or depth
We are in a mountain town and have two landmark historic homes in the development (see one is green at the left end)
We overlook a busy road and as "affordable" housing we are subject to increased neighbor scrutiny. Of course keeping same colors is less expensive…
The south facing front fades some - and you see we changed the lime green and used more cream (original build was five colors, we now have four)

... I think that contrasting square is fun. Is this the only street that does this coloring?Where is it located? Nothing wrong with adding some visual interest in a tourist community.
I once painted a gift shop a bright green with white trim and my mailman asked me if I got permission... now 10 years later everyone is adding color to their exteriors.Life is short, have some fun!

Comments (15)I really appreciate these suggestions and visuals - thank you! I will take pictures from some additional angles; the house is very boxy, and is currently one color of stucco all around, with one trim color (dark brown), with virtually no relief or break-up of that vast expanse of off-white stucco. I have been thinking about making the front porch body a shade or two lighter (or darker) than the body of the house to add a dimension/ depth; adding shutters to the 2nd floor windows is something I hadn't considered but helps add interest - thanks houssaon for that idea! Oh - there are no flower boxes on the 2nd floor - just on the outside of the enclosed front porch (which is basically the whole 1st floor you can see from this picture). Comments (23)cat_ky I love my existing color too, but my husband wants to change it. I want to thank you all for your suggestions. It helped us decide on the colors to sample. Comments (2)It's a great house. These 'shed' houses look best to me monochromatic- I would paint everything (except the stone) Sherwin Williams Black Fox or Urbane Bronze. When you can afford it the deck handrails could use updating ( I would replace some sections with stadium stairs and others with glass). Otherwise punch up the landscaping a bit and you are good to go. Slightly stronger colors would be the direction I'd head.
