I'd like some suggestions to update my kitchen. I need help! :-)
Comments (7)As much as I love dark stains, painting the cabinets may be the way to go. White, Grey, Blues are what is "in" right now but they're still nice neutral colors. My issue with this kitchen is what appear to be 30" wall cabinets and larger than life ceiling height in comparison. it makes the space seem short. lighter cabinets and maybe a darker wall color will close this gap. A horizontal backsplash will also help visually make the space longer, making it appear bigger....See MoreUpdating Kitchen… Need suggestions!
Comments (2)I think I’d save up to do an overhaul down the line. The reason I suggest this is because: 1- you should live in the space for a bit anyways and get to know what works and what doesn’t work for you. 2- I’m sure there are ways we can open up the space a little bit. Maybe removing the peninsula and adding an island and some more cabinet. 3- the kitchen isn’t horrendous as is. Nothing a coat of paint (for the walls) can’t improve. I would personally prefer to save the investment and instead of repainting the cabinets for 10/15k or whatever, invest in 25/30k when you can. And do it right. All the above really depends on If you plan to stay here long term or not ... Now, to answer your question- if you do choose to go with a refresh for now - paint the walls and cabinets white or cream. And definitely a new light. The thing with the light, is that it’s not in an ideal spot now, but if you do remodel the electrical there might be helpful. I also might add a pretty Roman style shade. I would have the top of the shade line up with the top of the cabinets. Maybe throw down a pretty rug also...See MoreI need to update this bathroom before selling home. Suggestions?
Comments (14)You really need to talk to a seasoned real estate agent. Your market, perhaps even neighborhood specific, will determine what buyers expect. Some locations have cooled off while others are so hot that anything not defective still sells immediately. Higher end buyers want their own style and don't want to pay for someone else's taste. Financially struggling buyers might want updates because they may not have improvement funds after a home purchase. If it was 2019 and your vanity was good looking in person, I would suggest finding a stone remnant counter with new under mount sink and nice modern faucet. A new sleek light fixture can be a small investment that makes a big impact. A few years ago, I did numerous updates like these plus lots of pro painting and landscaping. I knew I wouldn't get the cost back but did it so my house would be more competitive in that existing market and not sit unsold for long. Lipstick on my pig was done well and didn't look like a cheap fix from the big orange store....See MoreUpdating greatly needed! Color suggestions for wood and brick?
Comments (6)All the wood makes the house seem very dark. We don’t know your budget, so doing one inexpensive project at a time might sufficiently lighten the feel of the space. I would match the warm white cabinets to a paint and then paint the dining area hutch. You can paint probably it yourselves. Then search for a remnant stone (in a complementary color) to replace the current one. Two inexpensive projects. If you need more lightening, paint behind the shelves on either side of the fireplace. I wouldn’t put all those shelves back, but rather less shelves, but thicker. If that doesn’t give enough of a lighter feel, paint more of that area. Lastly, have you tried cleaning the walls? Wood can get very dingy from just the dust in the air, so a good cleaning could change the whole space....See MoreRelated Professionals
