coconut oil
Comments (113)I tried reading this thread throughly, but just couldn't do it.... Call me stupid, but nothing made sense to me. I am in no way a scientist, and doubt anyone in here is. There MAY not be enough research to prove coconut oil is better than any other oil, but there are thousands of testimonials of people who made the switch from vegetable oils to coconut oils and are just astounded at how much healthier they are. No this does not mean that you can go ahead and eat a double double cheeseburger or a couple slices of all meat pizza and then take a tbsp. of coconut oil and it will make it all better for you. I want to share how coconut oil has helped ME. I started cooking at home more and cut out almost all eating-out (only eat out when it's a really kick back weekend and I don't feel like cooking). I was still using vegetable oil at first but in moderate amounts, I wasn't gaining any weight but I wasn't loosing either (and yes I was counting calories, cut out most of the sugars and most carbs), but I felt a bit better. THEN I found coconut oil, I cannot rave enough about all the good things it has done for me. I don't count calories anymore, but I do follow portion control and have my snacks in between. Two of my sisters (the thinner and "healthiest" ones in the family) had their cholesterol checked and found out it was a bit high, I on the other hand am overweight compared to them and enjoy a healthy life, since I made the switch I've been loosing pounds little by little (something that wasn't happening when I was counting calories, only 1200-1500) maybe because I had candida and didn't even know it until I started coconut oil and started experiencing yeast die-off. Not only for cooking but for dry skin, dry damaged hair, acne, and I don't have a list but I know there are many other benefits. My son didn't like to eat, I had to literally force him to eat, now he actually tells me to cook him something because he's hungry!! I am more active, with lots of energy that I actually feel like starting the p90x. I just want to say "God, thank you for putting coconuts on earth. And whoever started making oil out of this, thank you for coming up with this great idea. Its been a miracle food for me and my family. P.S. I told my sisters about coconut oil, they switched, and I'm glad to say that their cholsterol levels have actually lowered since then. (What's up with all the media misinformation? The big guys with the big bucks actually pay and threaten them with lawsuits if this kind of good information leaks out)...See MoreCat's claws
Comments (33)All of your stories are wonderful. Your story is sad, Tally. My indoor kitty is presently having a fit because he can smell the stray (Cleo) on me. He'll hiss and growl at me when he smells my pants. It's funny but at the same time it gets me thinking "How in the world is this going to work when he behaves like this and it's only a smell and not yet the other cat 'in person'.... I'm going day by day. Now I just hope I can get her to the clinic on Wed. to get spayed. We have a lot of melting snow and refreezing the next morning. I'm hoping it's all mostly gone so I can get her there bright and early Wed. morning. I don't want to wait another day! I think I'm in for quite a nightmare. We brought in a kitty that was about 5 wks old over last summer. My dd fell in love with it and we figured we'd give it a try. Our vet had a bunch of them at the time so we tried for a week. Our cat became so aggressive that he'd try to bite us. He actually took to my MIL's ankle who was visiting at the time. It got so we couldn't even walk by him without him growling at us! Sunny, our cat, never even saw the kitty... it was just from the smell and the soft meowing from the kitty. We eventually returned the kitty to the vet. We checked often and she was adopted eventually. I think of this and then I think of an actual introduction of Sunny to Cleo and I panick inside. Ok, enough torture for now. I'm going to take it one day at a time! Hay Dios mio!!...See MoreAmericans' Health LAST Among 17 First World Nations
Comments (24)I think the harder part of the issue is the cultural one...more is better, faster is better, cheaper is better. It's gotten to the point that even bed pillows are so fat that they won't fit our pillowcases. And ... no evidence ... but I believe things like video games have also led to a mentality of instant gratification...I want what I want, as much as I want, and I want it now! Also that there is no personal role to be taken, no effort to be undertaken and no responsibility taken for the outcome, discipline is out the window. Merely showing up is enough to reap full rewards. (On education, my GF is a prof of optometry...so we're talking professional level students...and one gal didn't understand why she was flunking...she said even though she didn't read the book, she carried it with her every day!) Supporting all of this, of course, is marketing that not only shouts at us from every screen (can you even avoid it any more? Even our gas stations now have screens that blare at us while we pump gas.) but scientifically designs foods and packaging and pricing in such a way that our innate psychology and impulse overtakes and we buy more. Work by Brian Wansink is amazing stuff that shows, even when people are educated about it...are shown the wizard behind the curtain...it doesn't change their behavior. Work done on epigenetics suggests our weight issues are only going to get worse as being born of an obese mother apparently makes your own obesity more likely so it becomes self-perpetuating. Then there is the visual effect. Our eye adjusts over time to what looks normal. I was watching a Doris Day movie last night and man she looked thin. Of course, that's what normal looked like back then. We are now growing so accustomed to seeing overweight people that normal weight folks start to look too thin. Then add in technology that keeps us sedentary. Remote everything. Everything at our finger tips. I don't know how you combat all of that without dropping out....See MoreWill gray cabs look dated in a few years?
Comments (24)I fell in love with the Martha Stewart Sharkey Gray cabinets. But after comparing prices, which were very good at Home Depot,I might add, and looking at pros and cons for painted cabinets, etc. I went with a local cabinet maker, and a lighter, more dove, gray. The Marthas had more taupe in them, and I wanted to pair the gray with black appliances, black and gray Dura Ceramic floor,. and a Sanded Gray Staron solid curfacing for counters. I have never liked the coldness of granite. My cabinets, in fact, are Thermafoil, which I had decided I would not like. But my cabinet guy took me to a house he had done n 2004 with Thermafoil, and they were BEAUTIFUL!!I am as we speak at the cabinet installation, keeping in mind also that this was a full gut kitchen remodel. I am really pleased with these cabinets, at a MUCH lower price than paint. I will have black pulls and knobs, which I think will pop nicely...I love red, so think red kitchen accessories will look great, and will also be fun. About gray being the in color for 2011...who knew...I just liked it. And about being tired of them? Well, that's possible with anything, right? In my case, I have lived in a kitchen in a house built in 1927 (love the house) with one functional counter for 21 years....I think in my case, it will be awhile until I am bored (:>) If I could figure out how to do it, I would down load some before and after shots!! This remodel experience has been very positive for my husband and me. We gutted our tv room and turned it into a great laundry/sewing rooim as well, so for the entire tear out, we have had a functional sink, electric cooking gadgets and a really large surface to use. That saved us, I think. I can't imagine doing this with nothing but a bathroom sink to wash dishes!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
