Flooring Design Dilemma living room

wall to wall carpet

I need to replace flooring (carpet) in open concept living room. I currently have carpet b/c the wood flooring runs in opposite directions on the 2 open sides of the room. I cguess I ould do herring bone pattern but I am thinkingI will stick with full carpet. I have dogs so I was told not to do do wool. I like the look of sisel but it is hard under your feet for a room we use everyday. Can someone recommend a carpet that is nicer than pile cut carpet? thank you

Sorry but honestly with dogs the last choice would be carpet. I have seen many beautiful old homes where wood floor was replaced and to help in the transition the floor was layed in the opposite direction it was finished to match and honestly looks fine. . If you must why not nice wood floor done to match and a large carpet that at least can be cleaned properly. A hard twist or polypropylene it is soft on the feet and easily cleaned

I’d go for wood floor running in two opposite direction instead of a rug. Especiay where dogs are concerned. Where does the transition occur from one direction to the other and can you put an area rug over the transition?

You know those 3M hooks that remove without leaving any damage to the wall? They have them like that only not hooks, but with velcro tabs. They are marketed as picture frame attachers. But I think you could use them without worrying that they would leave a residue on the carpet. You'd put some of them on the carpet and some of them on the runners, and then they snap together. You can separate the velcro tabs when you want to wash the runners. I don't think you'd have to remove them, but I'm not sure how the ones on the runners would do in the washing machine. You could always remove the velcro tabs by pulling the glue strip down and put fresh glue strips on the velcro strips on runners after washing. They are pretty cheap. They sell replacement glue strips separately so you could reuse the velcro parts.

Agree that paper booties are the best protection....but open house? How many are you expecting? Anything fewer than 40, don't stress. Those booties are for houses that are open to hundreds. And frankly when I am invited as a guest to someone's home for a party and greeted at the door with a basket of shoe coverings.....I turn around and leave. If your house is so fragile that it can't stand the wear and tear of a party....then have your partys at a hired venue.

1916 house here. I recognize the newel post because it is like mine. Our staircase is also set up in the same ways yours is. Our first floor, landing and stairs are all oak. Our second floor is maple floors. We used to have carpeted stairs and then pulled it up and had the stairs refinished. We also got an expensive surprise that some of the oak treads were in such bad shape that they needed to be replaced. Originally we had thought about installing a runner, but it's been six or seen years now and we still just have the wood stairs. I don't think we'll end up doing a runner since these are just fine the way they are.

We need to choose wall to wall carpet for condo about 1,500 ft. We have an off white mid century couch that has shades of grey and beige, 2 black Rosewood Eames Chairs and 2 white/silver based small mid century round tables and a walnut colored midcentury round dining table with 4 matching chairs that have a royal blue cloth seat. Loop has been recommended in the past. But there may be an issue with the nails of your dogs snagging larger loops. If the loop is dense, it may noy be an issue. Heavier face weight should help. Nylon. Wool nylon carpet is common in Britain where dogs are often part of households. Stanton is one source.

Do not do carpeting because of wood floor transitions going in different directions. Tell me what is wrong with these. Nothing.
