Amazon: Item hidden for privacy

New to me. Several recent purchases have not been listed on the confirmation email, and instead it says 'Item hidden for privacy'. The items haven't been anything naughty, just some whey isolate for my smoothies. I'm glad Amazon considers privacy but I can't even think of who might be offended by whey isolate.

Perhaps it's a glitch with the option intended for gift purchases?

My sister had the opposite problem - when they sent me a notice her gift had been delivered to me, they named the item.

That's odd. Normally the delivery confirm goes to the buyer. How did they know how to contact you as the recipient?

I researched this idea a few years ago to hide a hallway access door which stuck out like a sore thumb in my dining room. Usually it's best done on a wall that has moulding panels or wallpaper with a distracting pattern. Even then the edges of the doors will usually be detectable. Search "Jib doors" "hidden doors" and google will pull up lots of ideas. I've seen some ppl use mirrors to disguise a door, make sure the door goes all the way to the floor, a gap at the bottom will ruin the effect. Amazon sells wall safes that can be recessed in the wall between studs and then you can hang a picture frame or something to hide it. We have two in our house, one in the hallway and one in our bedroom, behind decorative mirrors on hinges. We keep firearms in them, after being robbed in the middle of the night once we decided keeping firearms close was a must have, but we wanted them to be child proof and hidden.... and easily accessible in an emergency. But I've seen people store jewelry, passports, documents, misc stuff in them. We bought a large safe to keep important stuff in though, since those are fireproof. But the wall safes are handy for any items you want hidden but not necessary protected incase of a fire.

Thanks for the link to that article veggiegardnr - very interesting to read. I do agree with them about industrial farms vs. smaller independent farmers. I believe most of our local independent farms who practice organic farming are very careful about what they use to grow their crops; many are also beekeepers, too. They are mostly "back to the land" types and are not farming to get rich from organics (for sure). I don't believe they have the definitive study or conclusions about farming practices. You can find studies that contradict nearly every point in their article, particularly the fallacy that production is less using organic methods, exacerbating the world food shortage. Can organic farming feed us all? And nothing was mentioned about the dangers to farmworkers of being exposed to dangerous chemicals being used on non-organic (and maybe some organic) crops. I simply don't trust that Dow Chemical has our best interest, or the Earth's best interest at heart. Pesticides and farmworkers I agree 100% with Beagles about GMO foods. So many things are seen as safe, or with no consequences, until somewhere down the line, they are found not to be. And when I read things like this: Atomic Veggies I can't help but believe that there is SO much being done to our food that we haven't a clue about; I just choose to fall on the side of buying food which is as unadulterated as possible. "On top of that, there are no animal testing models for the allergenicity of genetically engineered ingredients, so we are just banking on the promises of the chemical companies that have introduced and patented these ingredients. Ok thanks everyone. Could someone clarify for me these things: I think I understand about mirrored window film now and its advantages/disadvantages. And I already understood, more or less, frosted window film. I guess it comes down to covering with some semi-sheer cafe curtains/valance and then doing the window film as an added block. So the ultimate question is, of mirrored and frosted window film, which would ultimately block less light? Thanks :) Oh--and just to clarify for those who missed it and suggested coatings, consulting w/ pros, etc.: I rent. I should've stated that.

Rosefolly, as you say we should be thankful that RP would prove of little value to the 'snooping community'. Both my S-in-Law and son work in the cyber security field and make us very aware of the dangers involved. It is a hugely growing industry and we ALL should be aware of the power of this new tech world, sometimes for good but too often for bad. Not just minor issues such as what page we are on while reading an 'e' book but the photos we might be storing in some 'cloud', those endless emails and tweet. Who would have thought just a few years ago of the possibility of governing a country by tweet/twitter . . . or choosing a life-partner from a dodgy photo and resume found 'on line'. And as for stuff such as paying by 'plastic', taking phone calls from crooks breaking into our bank accounts; even contactless payments. That is a really scary one. An elderly woman was interviewed on the BBC and she said how much she loved being able to pay for something just by wafting her purse (containing her bankcard) in the direction of an item she wished to purchase. It all makes Facebook look very innocent, although even there dangers can lurk for the unwary. Our son advises us to keep away from all the above.

I see. I don't recall seeing that and am not sure of what use it would be. If the recipient wants to return a gift, it's easy enough to send them the scan image to do so.

If the recipient doesn't want the sender to know they are returning something, it's nice to have the gift receipt.

Which credits your account. If they have a gift receipt they can return and get the credit.

I do things a in a way that this doesn't come up.

I have an aversion to giving white elephant gifts and do what I can to avoid doing so. For gifts for a child, I ask their parents for suggestions. For adults, I ask their partner/spouse or refer to something I know they like or do and get something in that vein. When the response to my question is "I don't know, you choose", I give a gift certificate to a store I know they like.

Especially with adult family members, it makes the gift process easy and also appreciated.

Wow I didn't know spouses and parents bat 1000 when choosing gifts. And have you never ordered something, even for yourself, that you've decided to return because it didn't meet your expectations or was the wrong size?

While I'd like to think I pick gifts well, I'd also like my gifts not to go to waste if they're not going to be used. To help ensure that I'd like to make it as easy and not awkward as possible for the recipient to return or exchange.

Becaise whether you buy something you think you want, or you buy something for someone that they think they want, there’s a chance it doesn’t meet your/their expectation or doesn’t fit.

Luckily, for us mere mortals, sending a gift receipt is an option that is available. It shouldn't concern anyone who doesn't need to use it.

Yeah, I'm not so arrogant to think that what I might pick out for someone is what they want or what they want in preference to something else. After 12 years of age or so, the element of surprise isn't the major part of receiving a gift and instead being given the opportunity to choose for oneself seems to always be appreciated, at least in a family. Maybe the people you give gifts to aren't of that mindset yet or you don't care.
