How can I add pull-outs to my double kitchen cabinets
Comments (3)I take it you have face frame cabinets from what you describe. I've been planning on doing something similar to a cabinet with double doors and a piece of the frame in between. Here's what I'm planning to do. The center strip in mine is screwed in with 4 pocket screws, 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. Use a flash light and try and see what type of head it has before you get started. Get a peice of 3/4" square stock cut it a couple inches less than the height of the opening. Glue and screw it to the side of that center peice so that it's flush with the front. Predrill is a must, countersink is optional but nice. Leave a gap at the top and bottom. Next close the door on the side where you attached the 3/4" piece. Then predrill and screw but don't glue it in. You just want to get the holes in, then remove the screws to the door. Now you want to remove that center piece from the cabinet box. First you want to take a utility knife and score the finish on the top and bottom to keep it from chipping. Maybe the back too. Then unscrew it. If it doesn't come right out, use a thin bladed saw to cut the top and bottom. It might be glued. Might be a good idea here to sand the top and bottom to give you some extra clearance and seal the fresh wood on the top and bottom. Then attach that center piece to the door lining it up with the holes you made previously. Now that cabinet pretty much looks like it did before except when you open the door the center piece comes with it and you have full access. For the rest, read these instructions for making pull out shelves for your cabinets....See MoreHelp! How can I add curb appeal to my exterior??
Comments (16)Your home looks nice as is but one change that would be worth making, if structurally possible (weight bearing wall), is to remove most of that solid wall (about six feet) that is located to the right of the entrance in front of the door and altering that one arch across from the front door (only that one) to create a wider (rectangular) opening there -- an opening distinctively different from the arches of the porch and the windows. Making that opening larger would make your front door more visible and it would enable you to make your front entry more the focal point for the front of your home -- especially if you added some dark bold color by painting your front door -- and changing that one arch to a rectangle should not "confuse" the style of the home. You could frame that rectangle in wood. and/or You could also add a pergola or sun roof in front of the rest of the front porch -- in front of the arches -- if enlarging your front porch is of interest to you. Another idea to "break" the look of so much concrete could be to add vertical wood boards between each of the arches and add brackets for hanging flower baskets on those boards....See MoreFront Deck Ideas Needed to add interest to a small house entrance
Comments (6)@Anna & @NHBabs- I was trying to say add an above window pergola...not add a window =) We definitely don't have the room for that inside. I think with Dougs design a pergola would be too much though. We can definitely do a smaller, more affordable version of that gorgeous front deck. We are experienced DIYers and can do much or all of the work ourselves and with a few changes its completely affordable. I actually have more of the pavers from our walkway that can be added to the front area to widen that landing out some, though we won't go as wide on the left side as is shown because our yard gets narrower there against the neighbors yard. We can do stone that matches our existing stone out back on the steps and instead of stone columns we can do thick wood posts with black metal caps, and the affordable black aluminum railings that we had planned anyway, which would match our new back deck perfectly. We have considered stone in the chimney at some point in the future, though it won't be next year. It won't be quite as grand as Dougs design but gives a very similar look for alot less $$. I think to the left of the door we can add a long, covered, decorative bench box for wood storage in that space. That way we have wood for a week in the winter without trudging to the fire wood shelters out back every day or so. (We have 2 wood stoves that get used alot in the winters here.) We never use our entrance unless we are going out the front door for mail, and all our friends use the back entrance as there is ample parking out there. I can see us sitting out there on the deck with a glass of wine in the shade though. Since the only visitors we get out front are deliveries and people selling stuff, we probably don't need to add anything for sheltering them lol. Still struggling with house color. Currently its a pale yellowish color my husband hates (ditto for me) and it clashes with our new stone. We were thinking maybe something more earthy in a brown/gray...meaning not just brown or gray, something with a mix of both. Or maybe a darker beige. We'd like to darken it up a bit. The shingles are a dark gray but do have a little brown/tan in them along with the black and gray. Its called Canadian Driftwood....See MoreHow can I add interest to a long hallway
Comments (17)I think if you keep the frames all the same size with white matts then add your colorful photos and don’t get all stressed about the colors working.I agree 3 fixtures would be a good idea make sure they are LEDs in 4000K to keep the colors true....See MoreRelated Professionals
