Help with fireplace wall

We’re trying to make this wall look more attractive. We don’t want to mount the tv over the fireplace because it will then be too high to watch comfortably. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

do you use the fireplace?

it were me I would invest in a Frame Tv on a mantle mount so it can be lowered to a comfortable viewing height - love the idea of a larger live plant on one side

if you want to spend more money, you could have a symmetrical bookcase type wall unit built on both sides of the fireplace, maybe with a bridge over it, that would completely block out the window on the left. Leave a large space for a mirror above the fireplace. if you went this route I'd do it in a color to match the wall or similar light color. It looks like you have other windows off to the right side. You might have to add a little more lighting at that end of the room to make up for lost of the window. A cheaper solution would be to put drapery completely covering the window on the left and a matching one on the right side of the fireplace just covering the wall but the whole thing in a symmetrical arrangement. you could have the drapery rods at the same level as that uncased opening on the right.

First, that is likely a STONE veneer on the wall. If you don't like it you have to remove it. Or you could paint it. You can also remove part of the stone and add a timber mantel to the FP Here are the steps to get the stone off and the surround installed.

Hi Beth - I’m posting just to keep this current in hopes a pro will help you. As an observer, I find a discrepancy between your mantle and surround (traditional) with the vibe of the wood in the walls. The mantle/surround’s proportions and style seem off and maybe it’s part of what’s making it difficult for you. At first glance, I’d remove it, but that’s just my 2 cents.

Very nice home. Play down the soffets by emphasizing the tray ceiling visually. I love the Charcoal accent wall in the entry. Use that same color on the ceiling here and give the room some intimacy in this open floorplan. Define and unify the two spaces. Put plants in the windows for some softness. Books on the shelves bring a sense of coziness by the fire. Move the Fiddleleaf to an area with more light. Here is my concept...the ceiling is the same shade as the accent wall. Yes the ceiling fan stays, I just didn't place it in my idea boards.

Does the hearth extend all the way across the wall? It's difficult to tell from the photo. If not, put the TV on a stand in the other corner and decorate the hearth with a few favorite pieces. If it does extend across, create balance by placing the TV on an attractive base and get rid of small objects. Place a large sculptural object in the other corner: rocking horse, metal or glass sculpture, etc. Get rid of the art over the TV, it's a third box. You don't need that. Have you considered painting all of the bricks a color such as charcoal gray, or dark brown, so the two black boxes (TV and fireplace) don't contrast so much?

If the fireplace is wood, I'd get a clearer piece of glass or no glass and get some birch logs to put in the fireplace when you're not having a fire. Because I see a black hole. I think the picture emphasizes the lack of symmetry between the two black rectangles. I think if you moved the plant an inch or two to the left and hid the equipment under the TV, it would look good.

Can you mount the TV on the window wall?

spin the sofa to the solid wall? for sure, remove the framed coral and clear off the hearth, leave it empty. Is there a spot near where you are standing for the chair, tree and framed coral image?
