Showstopping bathroom tile - need advice on other design elements
Comments (19)Wow!!! I'm so impressed with all of these ideas - keep them coming! I think each would work, but would make for a very different look - high contrast, traditional, MCM, etc. I shared all of these ideas with my husband and I think we're both leaning towards subway tiles in the shower - either light gray or white - and probably oversized as Nancy in Mich suggested. Each hex pattern is about 6 inches in diameter so they're quite large and we agree a larger subway would balance it out. Any ideas for grout color if we go with white subway? A light gray grout? My husband loves the idea of accenting the shower tile with black or graphite-colored trim and bullnose pieces to tie in the dark accents in the floor tile, so we'll likely do that, as well. Pricklypearcactus, we definitely want frameless glass for the shower but still waiting on our quote... scared to open that email. :) And I think brushed nickel is the winner in the fixture department, though I may throw in a little gold by way of accessories to warm things up a bit. We're still trying to decide between a few things: - Pickled wood, white or dark gray painted vanity and either floating or shaker-style - Solid white or marble-type (quartzite?) countertop - Light gray or gray-blue on the walls, but I think this depends on the other finishes. And jrueter - thanks so much for including photos. That really helped us visualize how the gray subway would look. We'd never even considered anything other than white! Williamsem - I'll be sure to post pictures of the finished product, but you'll have to be patient with us. We're buying everything now, but not installing until after Christmas. :) Thanks again all! And please do chime in with any other ideas/suggestions - you've been SO helpful!...See MoreWhat design elements would you change for this room?
Comments (17)I think my main concern/top priority would be figuring out a way to wrestle the end table away from the current (former) owners. I think that's what I would be obsessing about right now. I think that end table is an amazing piece (the one between the 2 chairs). It's a stunning space. I would not, personally, change anything, in terms of the architectural features/details. I would bring in a more streamlined sofa and side chairs, probably in a lighter color. Whether light or dark - more streamlined. And I think I might opt to remove the mantle completely, and either leave the brick unadorned, or maybe bring in an unframed canvas. Metal art could be another interesting option. Or reflective metal art... gold, silver, copper, etc. Canvas. Maybe a floor lamp or two. I think I'd leave the tv where it is. But an additional option might be a tv lift cabinet - offers placement flexibility, etc....See MoreKey design elements in mid century colonial kitchen
Comments (28)I don’t understand a mix of the two styles. You may have a more eclectically styled house, and so not really a Neo-Colonial. I’ll try to post a photo from a tv set. Elements to include: wood cabinets and trims, beadboards, scalloped and traditional trims, often knotty pine was used. This period of Colonial re-creation was a romantic vision of the past, thus the popularity of the rustic knotty pine as a substitute for the primitive. Of course once style trends get picked up by the larger population, they tend to get cheapened and diluted. For example, the scalloped trim was utilized decades past the mid century....See MoreGot new roof - pls help with choosing door and other design elements
