No useful input, commenting to follow bc I am intrigued too. I am ready to try something new, need a new mattress and would like to get away from the old setup with box springs and that ugly metal frame.

I use a metal frame that is unattached to the fabric headboard. The weight of the bed keeps it in place. I see no reason why you couldn't do the same thing with a wooden frame.

If you're willing to splurge on something not cheap there is Thuma. I got one for my new house last year and could not be happier. The construction and finish are superb. It's kind of modular - you can get just the frame or add a headboard or add a cushion to the headboard.

TatamiRoom has Japanese interlocking frames. Their website is horribly old-school and deliveries are months out but the bed frames are very nice especially if you have a heavy mattress. They offer at least one style in "tall" if you don't like the low bed frames. I ordered a frame (Ensui) for our new mattress last fall and thought I'd get it by Christmas however, it arrived a little later. Super easy to assemble.

I do, but it doesnt look like the beds you are showing. I wish i could remember who made it. Maybe Hickory Chair? The headboard has brass nailheads. There are two things i dont like about it. First, the legsflare out and i am forever stubbing my toes on it.

The second is that the corners are sharp and I bash my shins when changing the sheets.

We have a queen cherry 1/2 post bed with cherry headboard (custom made). This works with our lifestyle, pine floors.

Not specific to your question, but we recently replaced our mattresses with those that work with "motion" beds or "adjustable" beds. The upper half comes up, the lower half with bent knees comes up and the head tilts up. It also has colored lights underneath which we don't use and an option for vibration with a timer which can be quite soothing to achy bones. It has been a total godsend as I struggled to get comfortable after my hip replacement, and especially for when my leg started swelling, elevating it above the heart was easy to do. So you might want to investigate as an option.

We have a fabric headboard mounted to the wall and a frame similar to what you have shown. We got our from Ama*** and it was maybe $200. Good and sturdy. I have only hit my foot once on the leg coming back from the br at night. Our room is very dark and I just misjudged, I feared that would be an issue though. It was a ZINUS brand.

3Katz we have the Thuma king sized bed in one of our guest rooms. It was very easy to put together, beautifully made and the wedge pillow headboard is, I’m told, very comfy for reading in bed.. We have two different color covers for the headboard pillow, which is a nice way to change the look.

Ded, thanks for mentioning the flared legs! So many have them, and I wondered about maybe hitting it in the middle of the night. I will avoid those.

You can probably use any adjustable base that has removable legs and zero clearance below on a frame that has enough support to not require a box spring. Ours doesn't have enough slats so we use the legs, but our son has his directly on the frame.

I had an ikea wood frame that just about killed my toes a million times. The frame was very sturdy and I liked that about it, but yes I wacked my shins and toes So. Many. Times. I knew it was there and yet I still did it.

I keep hoping to find something prettier than the Ikea frame, and hopefully less menacing as well.

Yes, Ally, this is precisely why we are not doing a wood footboard of any kind! We used to have a wood one years ago and I still have a scar from the big scrape and dent I received when I ran into the thigh-high corner one night. Hopefully I can protect my toes from similar insult with a plain platform.

I cannot even look at platform type beds without wincing! I’m a perennial klutz and all I can see are stubbed toes and bashed shins.

We have an adjustable bed frame and my husband took the headboard and footboard from our (metal/iron?) bed and somehow fit them to the adjustable frame. I believe the legs to the adjustable frame are still there but behind the headboard/footboard "legs". The adjustable frame has upholstery around it so no health hazards lol.
