I know this is an old thread, but I faced the same issue: surface mounted medicine cabinet 4 7/8" deep. I found a Kohler Tone 3-light vanity fixture Model #31770-SCO3- BNL (brushed nickel one) that was perfect. It extends 10 3/4 inch out, but it's only 6 inches high. It was beautiful, but after ordering from Lowe's, it went from delivery 6/12 to delayed to out of stock. Damnitall. Whoever reads this...it will be available in October, 2023. I talked to a Lamps Plus clerk who said the entire bulb must fully extend out past the medicine cabinet to avoid all shadow. This Kohler model does that. I had to totally switch gears to a fixture that pointed up. I hope it will work to provide enough light. I'm not as thrilled about it, but you have to be practical to get the bathroom remodeled in time. I hope this is helpful. Good luck to all who face this issue!

I am new to this forum, and I am completely amazed by the tenacity of all of you. I read your first thread and cannot believe that you worked like crazy all through Christmas! I think Bill and Mongo are brilliant, and Flyleft is amazingly funny and resilient, and so is Ivette and Monica; and that this forum is a Godsend. That being said, I looked at your "New Plan." Is it possible that you could use the Panasonic Whisper product that is the Light/Vent or Heat/Light/Vent variety? If you use the Whisper Warm that is the Heat/Light/Vent, you might eliminate the need for the QMark heat lamp that you show as a product choice. I am thinking of switching from the Nutone prduct I have roughed in to the Whisper Warm because so many users on this forum have said how quietly and warmly it performs. Then would it be possible for you to place this product just outside your shower so that the light could be cast into the shower while bathing, and the heater provide comfort once you step out? Naturally, the fan could be used in warmer months to remove humidity as you showered. I don't know if your venting system will allow you to place this fixture close enough, however. I think that kob's suggestion of a remote to turn off the light is a good one, I have used such a remote in a tall cabinet, they're great. I'm not sure if it would work on a shower light, however. Also, in Nutone's heat/light/vent combination, all three switches are housed in a box that fits into a single switch; the 3 are just arranged vertically. That was one reason I liked the Nutone because the 3-function switch fit into a single switch plate (box). I do not know the configuration of the Panasonic switch box. The Nutone is a little noisy in the heat mode, though, as I have it in another bath. I am not familiar with the "tow" lights kob referred to in his post. Can any one expound? Good Luck, Lisa. I have a downward facing 5-light unit over my mirror. It's the only light in my 5x10 guest bath and illuminates the entire space with a total of 200 watts (incandescent). If I'd had a bigger budget, I'd have worked some sconces in there for the flatter factor. But, I never put on makeup standing/leaning over a counter. Never standing up. I have a little makeup station in my office--where else?!!--where I sit down in comfort with a huge magnified mirror and apply makeup at my leisure.

Those are beautiful fixtures. I'll tell you what I'm doing. We have 2 seperate vanity's with a mirror above each. Since I read and keep reading that overhead sconces are not the most flattering or best for putting on make up, we decided to put ours on the sides. We didn't have room on the walls along side the mirrors so we are mouting one on each side wall (single light) and are mounting a double in the middle of the two mirrors. I can take a photo of that wall to show you what I mean if you need me to so you can get an idea of what I'm trying to explain.
