Propagating Hydranges - Martha Stewart's Results?
Comments (4)Gardengal, well I am so glad to learn something. So then do the roots not shoot from the nodes? How about the rooting hormone - is it not important to get the rooting hormone (if you are going to use it) at the node? I am so glad you came along and pointed this out. In all that I have read on propagating (and it is a lot), I have read to cut the shoot just above a node, so as to not leave a long, unsightly stem sticking above it on the plant, and then to cut the shoot again, just below the bottom node. With begonias, for example, the stem below the node is useless and only serves to increase chance of rot. Instructions always show to cut just below the bottom node on the cutting. Same with roses - see the link below, and also many tropicals and perennials. Hmmm, so hydrangeas are different. Well thank you for taking the time to respond. I would love to know the answer about applying rooting hormone. It seems to me that many, many people do not find rooting hydrangeas to be so easy. Just Google it - the forums are filled with frustrated gardeners. Thanks again, Carol Here is a link that might be useful: Is this how you scrape the cuttings for rooting?...See Moremartha stewart pre-lit christmas tree
Comments (17)I just assembled my Martha Stewart tree. It's about four years old and a 7' "slim" tree, which comes in three parts. It could well be that the Martha Stewart badge goes on many different trees from different manufacturers, so I wouldn't be surprised if the connections were different from one tree to another, or one year to another. But in any case, my experience was similar to drjinva's. The wire that plugs into the wall ends in a socket like an extension cord, and accommodates three plugs. It has a little red tag hanging from it saying "please plug in here." There are three male cords, one from each tree section, that have little red tape dots on them. I plugged each of them into the socket. There's *also*, in the middle section, a male plug and a small female plug, neither of which had red dots. I plugged the male into the female, and now the whole tree lights. In previous years I've added an extension cord inside the tree (see my previous post) because the top section cord didn't seem to want to stretch to the socket, but this year I was able to get it all together. I'll still use the extension cord for the extra lights I add. The box has a phone number on it for assistance: 1/800-813-0206, and it says to call between 8-5 eastern time. Again, though, it's several years old....See MoreWhat would Martha Stewart say.
Comments (9)She'd be irritated with me, but not really be able to give me any concrete suggestions to fix the problem. She wouldn't have a response for the fact that I had to dumpster dive my desk, chair, and old student desks used as tables. She would get irritated that I couldn't organize myself when I came to work and found my office moved somewhere overnight because "they needed the room." I just never found my system for my work space. Too much was out of my control most of the time. I find it difficult to get my work space at home to function well. I'm still caught in the vertical/horizonal piler quandry. The same space needs to function while I spread out papers for the grants I'm writing for our Irish Dance non-profit. I need to sew ties in this space. I need to keep my stash of books in this space. My sewing supplies in this space. I've got bookshelves, but the room is only 8 feet wide and 25 feet long. I can only get so many shelves in and still have room to walk around my sewing table. Oh, well. It's the best I can do right now and it doesn't interfere with my ability to get done what I need to get done. It's still a cozy place I've got decorated with things I enjoy. Comments (9)Yes, I've had the nightmare of dealing with MasterBrand cabinets. I bought defective Omega cabinets in 2008. They started to chip and disintegrate. Now they're decrepit. Two warranty reps both tried to bully me out of exercising my warranty rights. They blamed my housekeeping, my sponges, my dogs and my "lifestyle" for the cabinet failures. I believe that there are many, many more MasterBrand cabinet failures than MasterBrand knows about because the warranty reps appear to be incentivized to bully consumers out of getting their crappy cabinets fixed. I'm looking for other people to post pictures and their MasterBrand warranty experiences so that we can band together. There is power in numbers, including the threat of a class action lawsuit. You can learn more about my cabinets, and join MasterBrand 911, using the links I will post below.
