Laundry room 10 x 7 too small for a family of 5?
Comments (12)OP, it sounds like you will have a lot going on in that room! What's the room pictured below the laundry room? I think putting the door on the end gives you better use of the space, making it a galley-style, and improving the accessibility. Measure what you need for each purpose - broom closet, laundry baskets, dog food, paper product storage. Will these be custom, or do you have something already? How much area do you need for the sewing machine - both for use, and storage of fabric and accessories? Once you have your needs determined, it will be easier to determine the most efficient layout. If you can fit everything along one 10' wall, 8 feet wide might even be too much; if you need both 10' runs to accommodate everything you want in that room, 8 feet will probably be too narrow. The better you can measure/estimate/plan for your anticipated needs, the better use you can make of the space. Good luck!...See MoreOnly my Laundry Room Family would understand
Comments (4)Donna..best time to do this stuff. I managed to orginize the boys clothes last night and did a ton of clean laundry that needed freshening up..things the boys haven't wore since the dead of last winter, some still fit but most have to get donated. My days of going out and celebrating are over, a quiet evening with laundry and cheesecake is all I desire on New Years Eve now LOL....See MoreFacebook Family Laundry Room Requests

Comments (25)If a small table is good for everyday, there are workarounds for occasional family get-togethers. Reading Sarah Susanka's books may give you some ideas for having your spaces live large. For example, she suggests 2 smallish tables that are the same height, that can be put together for occasional larger dining needs. For large meals we split people up between the kitchen and dining room tables, and the rule is that mid-meal you shuffle places so you have different dining companions for dessert. For holiday meals my MIL used to put tables end-to-end that covered the full length of living-dining room, such that the people on the far side needed to crawl under the table to get there. Obviously that was for the younger more nimble people. The kids loved it and still talk fondly about diving under the table. If your need is for a more elegant dining experience for couples, that obviously won't work LOL....See MoreRelated Professionals
