Online rose vendors
Comments (3)Most of the on-line vendors sell DAs, but none of them sell all of them. If you know which DAs you want you could go to helpmefind.com/roses, bring up the rose(s) and click on the Buy From tab. Vendors I trust absolutely and have bought from for years are: Vintage Gardens, Chamblee's, Roses Unlimited. Others would add Rogue Valley, Heritage, and Antique Rose Emporium....See MoreVendors for Fortuniana roses
Comments (9)I bought four rose bushes from S&W last year with good success. I have it understood that S&W purchases their roses from Weeks which has a small selection of Fortuniana rootstocked roses on their wholesale purchasing list. I also have it understood that Weeks has been in the process of eliminating their Fortuniana root stocked roses altogether due to a weak demand for the roses, so it doesn't surprise me that there are no offerings on Fortuniana this year. I have also purchased a large amount of my roses from www.nelsonsroses.com. I've been finding their rose bushes trunks to be very thin this year for some reason, but this hasn't hindered the health or vigor of the roses I've purchased thus far. It is important to note that I've never ordered roses from Nelson & Sons via mail or internet (I have heard their shipping prices are far too expensive given that all their roses are in 2 or 3 gallon containters and they are not equipped for this on an industrial level like other mail/internet order suppliers). I've always found them in one of my local nurseries (one of the few still open) or I've gone to the Nelson & Sons nursery to purchase roses directly. K&M nursery has, by far, the largest selection of roses on Fortuniana that I have come across. Call or e-mail them with your name and address and they will snail-mail you their most recent product list. You can also find previous years' lists on the home pages of some rose societies' web pages. I haven't ordered from them before but am anxious to do so. www.coolroses.com is a great source for roses but make sure to call them as they don't always check their e-mail regularly. I recently purchased four rose bushed from them and have been pleased with their product (they graft some of their roses themselves and purchase some others from wholesalers like Nelsons, MerryGro, etc.) I am sad to see MerrGro close it's doors. They were one of the most dependable and easy-to-oreder-over-the-internet sites that I've come across in my quest to fill my garden. With that said... Good luck finding a source! Comments (10)@seasiderooftop Thanks for watching! It is a fantastic looking root. So glad you enjoyed this video and the Gall video. I have monthly meetings through the RG Facebook and we will be having a Gall specialist speak with us in March. His talk on RRD in January was awesome. We will have a another specialist in later talks on Rose Mosaic. I hope you will join us 😊...See MoreBeginner rose recommendations, TX vendors & evidence-based resources
Comments (17)This is a really interesting discussion! When I planted my first roses after buying my house I didn't do much research at all--and they all lost every leaf from blackspot. I considered spraying but I'm too lazy; luckily, I found the book "Roses without Chemicals" and was able to start learning about what roses would be more resilient for my area. (I'm in North Carolina zone 7.) Since then I've replaced them all with disease-resistant varieties and if they don't perform I shovel pruned them. One of them I gave to a friend a 40 minute drive away and it's thriving for her. So weird. But I don't have to worry about cold-hardiness at all! Or provide winter protection. So there's a whole bunch of advice I can ignore. You're lucky to live so close to the Antique Rose Emporium! Or at least give them a call for advice, I heard the owner interviewed on the "Rose Chat Podcast" and he seemed 100% cool and knowledgeable. I have no idea if you have to deal with blackspot or thrips or what in Austin. My brother moved to Austin and his wife said she can't do vegetable gardening in high summer as the plants melt (or something). So maybe you need afternoon shade or your roses will burn? I have no idea!...See MoreRelated Professionals
