Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

We are needed to replace our roof and siding on our house in southern florida. The front faces south and has a lot of exposure to the sun. we have a lot if steep surface area on the roof. We really dont want a dark roof due to the heat exposureI sure. Im looking for some contrast that will bring this Cape style house up to the next era! We are 1 block from the ocean so salt and effects often wear things down much quicker. I'm also in need of a hurricane front door. I am ready for a complete transformation on the look of this house. Thank you for your feedback.

With only an ariel view it’s difficult to get a sense of your home’s character. A light grey roof is pretty much a neutral and would suit lots of siding choices. Decide on style of front door and its (+) garage’s color after the exterior is finished. If you haven’t already, drive around and also look for inspiration on line.

Important to consider the type of roof.

At least show the front of the home where the entry is and as for roof color ansd material go to a roofing supply place to see what is needed where you are . When you say complete over haul of the house what exactly do you mean ? IMO if a complete redo the roof has to wait until all the rest of the changes are made since often a renovation inside changes the outside too.

Look into something that blends with either the roof (greys and grey-greens) and accent with brick colors or blend with the bricks (red/browns). Is the siding a true white? The door is a black hole, isn't it? Anything but black would be an improvement. I would paint above the garage door something that blends with the bricks, even faux paint to match the bricks, to get rid of that odd bit of paneling. Then paint the actual door to match the shutters.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. The house is a pale yellow, buttery cream color, not tan. The shutters were on the house when we bought it years ago. We don't want the expense at this time of removing the bay window shutters and dealing with the siding/repainting. I understand that they aren't appearing as "real use" / size shutters. I just want to determine the best color for the shutters, which will include shutters on the sides of the house as well, as it looks too plain from the street. I like the idea of painting the porch though, maybe at some point in the next year or two.

It would be too much white for my tastes. I would want some definition between the roof and the walls. I think you can achieve a clean, classic look without going white on white.

Dark Bronze. Somewhere between black and brown--dark bronze. The color of tree bark--but I am still open for suggestions as I am in the deconstruction stage. I am drawn to dark colored houses with dark trim. The only thing that has been determined are the Anderson windows with dark bronze trim.

A complete out door overhaul on the house. we are also in the process if putting white frame hurricane windows.

If you're going to keep the yellow paint, I'd go with a cream, beige or tan roof. Otherwise a light gray. If you found a warm gray, it might work with the yellow. I'd also consider adding a window on the roof. You have a lot of second floor with no window. A shed dormer over the palm trees in the last pic would add interest to the exterior and light to the interior.

Thank you - I don’t care for either yellow or green, so I am not keeping them. It gets to be a fresh new look for everything.

The insurance company will make you install a metal roof since they don't want to insure shingle roofs anymore.
