Thanks! I'm happy to hear you're happy with the quality. Did you get mortised hardware, and are you happy with your locks, handles, etc.? On my house, the full-view door will be on a deep, shaded, north-facing porch, so direct exposure to sunlight isn't an issue on that one. For that door, I do want just a simple pane of glass to show off the historic-esque bungalow-style entry door (as soon as I choose one), and I don't need the ventilation for the room that door opens into as it has eight operable windows with screens! The back door, however, is at the southwest corner of the house with very little shade, so heat buildup is an issue. I'll be sure to talk to the ProVia guy about whether that's an issue with the back entry door when he's here measuring next week. I am planning on a white-painted fiberglass door for the back entry door, so I imagine the heat will not be a problem, but I'll ask.

Weird. >Why would you want to have the doors most in need of security made of the thinnest steel? I am unclear to what extent the steel thickness affects the security of the door. Is literally breaking through or cutting through the door panel a likely means of break-in? By that theory, wouldn't any fiberglass door be comparatively insecure? I had thought that weakness in the frame and/or locks was more likely to be exploited by a would-be intruder. In the meantime, our decision pendulum might be swinging back towards Heritage fiberglass with a woodstain finish (for the front door at least). Don't worry, we'll change our minds a few more times again before we order!

Provia is one of my choices. In my area protection from the winters' cold, winds, and banking snow is the first concern. The only Provia dealer I can find is in Minneapolis, MN; that's about a 7 hour drive from me. I tried sending an email to the company yesterday, and it was returned as "not a valid address". I am going to call them tomorrow. I hoping they can make a storm door with the white outer frame, to match the windows, but have the cross piece for the removeable glass/screen parts painted in the dark brown so it won't appear as a white bar across my wood tone/textured steel door. If not I'll see what they think about a dark brown storm door over my dark brown door. The door faces due east, and it very hot on the exterior until after noon. Once the sun moves over the house it cools off. The screen would be in the upper section from Spring until freezing weather.

Hey Pro Guys, I got a quote for a HMI steel door (no glass, includes peep hole, door knocker and schlage doorlock) and a Provia Decorator series Full view storm for about $4500. Does that sound about right? I live in the NYC area. Thanks
