There's nothing wrong with it if you just leave it blank with the aprons. It would bug me visually cause the window doesn't make sense with the ceiling beams and the cabinets are crammed up against it. So I would do the big bucks if you got 'em and take it out. Replace it with a smaller, but slightly taller window centered between the two beams. If you have a view, replace with a really tall window. I would try to resist the temptation to fill it up with stuff. Maybe one of those iron cookware stands? Maybe a small table or chest. To me, the trash can and stools help your kitchen look junque-ie. On the other hand, I don't get what's going on beside the ref with the dimmer on the wall ?in a corner?

Our sink was an off-the-shelf, 18 gauge undermount sink. Our fabricator welded it into the countertop, and you really can't tell that they were ever separate. No seams, nice clean lines. You can judge for yourself! It's true that you can't integrate just any sink. It has to be a certain thickness and quality in order to weld it onto the countertop, and the sink manufacturers' specs don't necessarily tell the whole story. The sink may have been made out of 18 or 16 gauge steel, but after it's stamped and stretched into shape, it may no longer be that thick. When we first met up with our fabricator, he was complaining about having just welded a Franke sink into a countertop, because there was so little material to work with, the sink having been thinned out quite a bit during manufacture. The sink we ultimately went with happened to be in the fabricator's shop already, so we bought it off him, and he knew he could weld it.

I don't think a utility sink is a necessity, but it is convenient when you need one. Our last house had one in the laundry room. We had babies and young children then, so I was soaking a lot of clothes in there;) I used it for the mop and to clean up after painting. It was conveniently located right next to the washer. I took the sink out of the laundry room here to make more room for hooks and benches and gear. There is a utility sink in the workshop in the basement, and I haven't used it much, but I am glad it is there. Cleaning up after painting outside is a great idea and I have seen that done, but I live in WI, so that is only possible for half the year.

thank you for all the feedback so far. I should have clarified that this is not the kitchen but a built in nook for computer and TV. The kitchen is white and the crown molding matches well. This nook if off the kitchen but around a corner so not immediately visible. We talked about not doing the crown molding in that area but we couldn't come up with a good breaking point from the rest of the house. We had talked about taking the white molding across the top of the dark cabinets but I didn't know if that was an acceptable design option. I see PPF has posted a rendering of it and others are suggesting it. Here we are trying it out. This might be my favorite option because of the clean lines, I just couldn't find any picture on line of something like that so i didn't know if it was taboo.
