I want to do bead board in my hall way, but not sure where to stop? I’ll post pics but it’s obviously one continuous wall into my kitchen on one side of the hallway and my living area on the other. Do I continue the bead board onto those walls? The walls I am referring to are pictured. The second picture shows the wall leading to my kitchen and the 3rd picture shows the wall that is in my living room (with the sofa in front)

Why? Very colonial.

IMO Board and Batten would be a better concept for the hallway.

Thanks enduring! Didn't see it at Walmart but can get it at Superstore. And just looked and I can order it from Walmart.ca. Hoping to keep the white uniform shirts white this year, going to start preemptively before they get filthy! Maybe with some of the Persil and oxyclean I can get ahead.

Consider the following: 1. A new sofa against the window wall. 2. Mount tv above fireplace after wrapping the upper portion with reclaimed (fire retardant) wood. 3. Add two chairs with the backs facing the kitchen. 4. A large area rug. 5. Silhouette window treatments. Hope that helps!!

You really don't want to put something in front of the heat vent on the floor. I know people do it all the time, but it wears on the furniture and makes the heating way less efficient. Is the stove directly under that opening or to one side? It's clearly for connecting the kitchen and living room. My grandma had something like that in her apartment. She had little glass tchotchkes on shelves there. I'd be more likely to put a collection of glass things I actually used . . . even if only once and a while. On the other hand, if it was directly over the stove, NO WAY. I'm not going to want to deal with the potential greasy dust. I'd leave it blank and put some larger art on either side facing the living room, and call it a day. It's a walkway.

Sorry, I left out the back story assuming everyone was bored with it. The general idea is that it was built in 1965 so is somewhat in the style of MCM (slab door cabs, shape of the building), but not strictly. Until a month ago, walls were dark fake wood panelling so it seems super light to me now (finally!). The original counter was rotting, so we took the opportunity to do a mini reno with pretty much no budget (hence the mismatched cabs and appliances). Took down a half wall to make the peninsula. Counters will be light wood. My comfort zone style-wise is pretty neutral and nothing too over the top (2nd pic is our main home kitchen and is indicative of my neutral style). Love the idea of a basket on the fridge- I am in love with the sisal baskets available everywhere right now. I'd just been looking at some for towel storage. I was just reading on another thread about MCM whites being less grey and more warm, but generally I'm just thinking not too cool or stark. Maddielee, Capitol White is on my list and I think that came from seeing your pic. Here are the stools. I'm hoping for something that fits under the counter as the space is really tight also trying to keep most of the wood tones light to go with what is already there. Inspiration photos: obviously a classic case of champagne taste on a beer budget :)

I am not sure about adding to the walls like that with the tile floors (all the inspo pics have wood floors) - plus the hall is pretty chopped up with doors, seems like a lot of work without much impact but that’s just a me thing

I would get a fabulous colorful runner for the hall instead - then you would see it fully when you look down the hall (wall treatments in a narrow hall will be hard to appreciate)

Yes, I for sure want to add a runner! Maybe after adding the runner I can revisit if I think it needs anything else

I agree with @la la Girl that will all those doors in the narrow hallway wainscotting would be a lot of work for not much of an impact. I would definitely start with a nice long runner.

Another thing you can do is install moulding on all your hallway doors, something like this...

if you are introducing any kind of wainscotting, do it throughout the house rather than just one spot. Make it look intentional. the runner and Paint just the hallway a brighter shade and change the light fixture. What does the door at the end of the hall lead to? a closet? another room? Is it generally closed? if it's a shallow closet, you could remove the door, paint the interior shelves and display.
