Musical Chairs--Need Serious Help with Family Room Arrangement
Comments (4)The arrangement in #4 looks comfortable & welcoming. I think the leather chair looks better near a wall to anchor it since it has such a large profile. I think you are right - the room needs to be pulled together with colors. You could consider reupholstering the chairs in a fabric that picks up the color of the leather chair & the gold curtains. Maybe add red ball fringe to the inside edges of the curtains? Again, you are right - the color of the sofa contributes nothing to the other colors. YOu could try a slipcover, again repeating the color of the leather chair or the curtains. Once you have your fabrics you can determine a paint color that picks ups one of your dominant colors - just softer. I think the table lamps look better at the ends of the sofa rather than popping up in the middle of the wall cutout. You really have some nice 'bones' here - it just wants a little refining....See Morevery small, odd shaped living room with no room for a couch, help!
Comments (10)Hey Mikeala, while you may have to make some compromises due to space restrictions, you can definitely fit a compact couch in the room. As @mindshift recommends, it would a good idea to keep all your furniture compact and as small as possible. I've made a couple of options for you here. (All dimensions are approximated from the images you have posted) For the first layout, I've eliminated the coffee table and added a slim console by the entrance, a wall mounted TV and an end table. You could also buy nested tables so you could stack them when they aren't being used. For the area by the staircase, I've added a tall bookcase and a couple of chairs for extra seating. adding a mirror would give a sense of a larger space, I've styled this room with modern furniture with a touch of hollywood glam. For the second option, the entrance is more open although the TV unit has been placed on the large wall. This allows TV viewing from both seating areas and yet separates the space. You may prefer this layout if you don't like the idea of having a living right at the entrance. I've styled this room with Scandinavian furniture. Do send us measurements and photos so we could further customize these for you. You could also add/ swap furniture and make your own layouts here....See MoreHelp with office/library/music room
Comments (14)tracefloyd, I had considered something similar, but dismissed it because I didn’t think there was room for it. I measured it out though, and if I keep my desk under 60 inches, there is plenty of room to walk around the desk. Keeping a 57” x 26.5” desk aligned with the window will only give me 32 inches between the desk and current book shelf. A few inches less with built-ins. If I move that desk forward, I can get the clearance I need behind the desk. If I did this, I would skip adding doors. I don’t need privacy in this room during working hours as everyone else is at school or working outside the house. Not building the wall saves me a couple of thousand dollars, and I would probably swing for the built-ins on both walls. I have dual monitors which isn’t the most attractive look for a desk that’s not against a wall. They are on a single stand, and a desk with some cord management options can help keep that looking tidy. I have a docking station that would be viewable, but maybe I can switch to one that can be mounted under the desk. My two small speakers aren’t an issue, but my subwoofer is going to be very noticeable. I love the look of desks that face out in a room, but when they are clutter free with just a laptop. Below you can see the potential layout of a desk aligned to the window and one where it is moved forward. A plant could help hide the electrical socket and the primary cord....See MoreHelp with this odd room!
Comments (14)WOW I am not huge lover of wood rooms but that seems to be a good choice here. I agree that if possible involve that seat area with storage for the office so you avoide trying to patch that spot. I mmight go with a different floor just to avoid the wood box feel since where the hot tub is will probably need to be filled in with flooring anyway with those 16' wood walls. It would be very helpful to post a to scale plan of the whole space showing the bench the wall of glass going into the bedroom and the other wals that go out to the back yard. IN your first comment you wanted to level the floor so I understand now that is not on the table. Do the plan on graph paper to scale show every measurement clearly dooterd lines where the bench and hot tub are now . Post here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post . Please also include in directions what you NEED in the office ....See MoreRelated Professionals
