Angled ceiling, bathroom vanity light dilemma
Comments (20)Once again GreenDesigns is exhibiting his/her lack of knowledge. An exception to the minimum height requirement: "The ceiling height above bathroom and toilet room fixtures shall be such that the fixture is capable of being used for its intended purpose." And that's if your jurisdiction even uses the IRC. A municipality is free to adopt any part (or none at all) of national and international codes....See MoreHELP! Bathroom design dilemma
Comments (46)I offered a layout with private vanities and walk-ins but I must say, I like my first layout: - No risk of locking some out; - Long continuous counter top (I think teenage girls would prefer that over a small private vanity); - I like the deck at the end of the tub to keep toys (or all kind of different products when they get older); - All doors are 30" wide; - More storage in closet; - More spacious overall; - More natural light; - I like a J&J in this format. One teenage girl can do her make-up while the other is in the shower. A S posted the layout in her house that is similar to the one I drew and she said it works like a charm. - I think sharing the vanity is just one other way to get siblings closer and learn the values of patience, compromise and sharing. Note that a custom order of a 2'4" wide door for the bathroom's door would be a little better (even though it does not change the space in front of the toilet) and I would slide the door the other way to be able to mount a toilet paper holder on the right wall"....See MoreTiny Bathroom Remodel Dilemma - no room for light switch?
Comments (16)Thanks for all the comments! We have lived with this layout for years. This is current master bath, but we are doing an addition for the master suite and this will be come the guest en suite. @Greg GN Builders. we had a door there before, it was in the same opening and opened into the shower. I hated it. That's why we thought of a pocket door however nobody realized the light switch issue until now. @3onthetree the shower is 30x30. It's a super tiny stall but we've had a vanity in there already. Basically it's one person at a time in the bathroom. @KW PNW Z8 We had a vanity before and I wanted to go with a pedestal because I feel like it will open the room up a bit. You're right we give up the cabinet space but we have a large medicine cabinet mirror and we have 16x32 builtin shelves to the left of the sink where I can store a hair dryer and put things in nice baskets. Since it will be a guest bath, we don't want to store a lot in there anyway. To all who asked about moving the door or going to a swinging door, the pocket door is already framed in. The lights witch discovery was after framing. So we're going to have to make this work somehow. I never even thought about it honestly. We are going to talk to the electrician on Monday but we may have to go with the switch in the bedroom. @HU-272757914 I will just pretend I'm Canadian. LOL. I was planning to put a towel hook (not a bar, just a hook like this one https://www.build.com/product/summary/562687?uid=226702&jmtest=gg-gbav2_226702&inv2=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_226702!c1674295647!a65665541995!dc!ng&gclid=CjwKCAiA9vOABhBfEiwATCi7GF9Yx_r09UltqYxbcWZy1lqD2imO9JX6QMc3riXxtLtwkg2XHkryLRoCTNsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds to the right of the shower before the built in but now I think I'm going to need to put light switches there. That's a dilemma for sure....See MoreBathroom Reno- linen cabinet, feature tile wall, jewelry storage?
Comments (2)So your linen cabinet area is 30” wide? You don’t want just a linen closet? Cabinets could be nice (more expensive) but I would not do lowers and uppers like it’s a kitchen....See MoreRelated Professionals
