I think it just depends on what you're used to. I'd always had the hamper style, but my new dryer only came in the side swinging. It took me a couple of weeks to get fully used to it, but now it's fine. It is easier to get things out not having to lean across the door, but I also can't just throw wet clothes on the door and then shove them all in like I did before. IMO, it's not really that big of a deal either way though.

Where my glass door hinges meet the marble threshold (to the shower) we have brown marks. We have hard water but have a water softener. This doesn't seem to be happening inside the shower, but rather around the outside of the shower where the polished nickel hinges holding up the glass enclose (and door) meet the marble threshold. Any ideas how to clean this off? Obviously with marble we are more limited in what we can use (no vinegar, for example). Please help - it looks awful!

You could do what the brilliant former owner of our house did, slap paint on them as you paint the door. They even did matching light switches. While we question who did this, a lazy relative or paid painter, the hinges have stayed since they are hard change. So maybe painting them to match door frame is not so bad an idea. Also I have seen a DIY blog where they spray painted cabinet hinges after removing them. Metallic sharpie or paint pen??

......... here's the thing most people cannot look at your door handles and hanging lights at the same time, and if someone is staring at your hinges you have bigger problems LOL. Do what you like and what fits the style of the space you are in.
