Something such as: It’s so important when picking out paint, but especially gray paint, to buy a sample of the paint before committing to a whole gallon, or more. Each gray paint color will look different in your house than it does in someone else's house because of lighting, surrounding decor or even other paint colors in the room. So before committing to a large amount of paint, buy a sample. When you get the sample home don’t just paint it in one little spot in the room, paint a 1′ x 1′ square on every wall in the room you are painting. Check it throughout the day in different lighting. The above is a good color to try if you decide to steer away from a blue tone. PAPER WHITE 1590 Paper White is a very soft, verrrrrry pale gray. It is so pale that it might even look white in some lights. I think that it’s a better choice for a darker room. Therefore, it’s a good one for a gray for a north facing room. It is actually neither warm nor cool, just a very pale dove-gray and a wonderful choice for anyone wanting to give a pale gray room a go. or Passive by Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams offers quart paint samples which is a great. BM doesn't offer paint samples so perhaps a bad choice for me to toss them at you and suggest them! It all depends on the room and again most important to paint either on a poster board cut in to 4's and try the color on 4 walls or paint a 1'x1' of colors you choose on to a wall. Behr, SW and a few others offer paint samples. Either way, not trying to take you away from your blue walls, but don't see it as the best choice for the rich gray bed. Good luck to you!

Sherwin williams rain, is too much aqua to go with the pattern above. The blue in the pattern is more blue, and rain is a greenish blue. Take your fabric with you to go look at paint chips in the store, and then buy samples to put on poster board and tape on walls in all sorts of light.

Congratulations on your new home! I have, like others who have responded to your post, had considerable luck with garage sales, estate sales, and thrift shops. Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul can all be good sources for furniture and housewares. Nextdoor can be a good source for free or reasonably priced items (I know this from experience; others have had success with Craigslist and/or Freecycle, but I have not bought anything on either of those sites). Discount stores (Target, Walmart, and the like) can be fruitful, as can IKEA (you may want to check reviews of products on the internet before buying). I have even had some luck in finding items that have been placed at curbside or next to dumpsters for disposal but happened to be just what I needed for a particular purpose. Be wary of used cushions and pillows, as they may harbor vermin; if you buy such items used, have them cleaned thoroughly. Create idea books, but set a realistic budget and stick to it.

@MarylandHomebody that's true about the shirt, but we painted our kitchen Simply White and it looked green. We were painting over the previous owners dark green so of course at first we thought it was that. So we primed and painted again and still green. I hated it. Eventually we went with Opaline the same color we'd painted in the living and dining room. It's the palest blue/green/grey color. I love it and it completely got rid of the ugly shade of green we were seeing that I eventually figured out was a result of our green evergreens outside. I wouldn't have wanted to live with that ugly pea/yellow green and am so glad we repainted and didn't just take somebody else's opinion that it looks good when I knew inside it did not look good to us as that's ultimately what matters.
