When I found gall on a rooted band I had ordered and put in the ground (I had no idea what gall was at the time) I turned to this forum for advice. At that point, the band had been in the ground for several months. What I ended up doing was digging it out, making sure I got every last speck of root, digging up all of the soil around it and below it for another foot just to make sure, bagging the soil and the plant, doused that completely with bleach and disposed of it. Then I dumped bleach in the hole, and left the hole open and fallow for the winter. The next spring, I filled the hole with soil and compost and planted a perennial in its spot. A new rose went in a foot or so from the giant hole. I haven’t had any issues since. To my knowledge we don’t have gall in this area, so that problem definitely came with the band through the mail. I was determined not to add another plague to worry about to the garden, and so maybe went a little overboard. But (knock on wood) it seems to have worked out okay.

@Kristine LeGault 8a pnw they arent from the same place. The original culprit came from RVR but its neigbor was from Heirloom.. Since this is a rooftop balcony my thinking is that the persistent and sometimes strong winds could've easily swept some infected soil, or as @susan9santabarbara said some errant water splashed. Its weird because this rose (Tahitian Sunset) did so well until one day it simply stopped doing anything—not a single sign of growth in months. But given how hard and woody the growth felt, and its shape is almost square (like a small container Heirloom may use for rooting) I dismissed the poor performance as just a slow own root grower and the growth as some sort of callous. But the pictures look way more gall like sadly.

I have a 30qt container mix with a tree rose that has crown gall. Is the soil mix still usable or just simply start fresh... Is it worth the risk or just dousing the pot *shrub removed already* with boiling water.. And or just wrap the pot with a Black Trash Bag and let it solarize for the remainder of the 2023 summer season... Making new mix is not the issue but having the extra leftover coarse perlite for storage....not really looking to do . It takes up too much ### space.
