Seeking advice on curtain rods
Comments (4)My $.02, I don't think you need to hang those window treatments at the same height. I woudln't. I agree with PP in saying that since the ceiling heights vary, I would treat each window individually re: height. As for rods, I hear you on the cost! In my old living room, and now my family room, I put my curtains on a traverse rod. Not the prettiest but the functionality was key. They now sell decorative traverse rods. Much cheaper option than your decorator's option. Alternatively, I have used the adjustable rods from Country Curtains that are metal but the finials are wood (Regal line). I was pleased with them and they are a great price. If you have the curtains on rings, they would be easier to open. I didn't use rings and it was a little bit of a pain to open and shut but I did it several times a day in my son's room due to naps and I survived. So, I really just depends on ease of use, decor, etc. While $750 is a lot of money, it is pretty much the going rate when you do these things through a decorator. For me, I remedied that by going high end in some rooms and budget in others. Hope this helps a bit!...See MoreCurtain Rods----a Question of Proportion
Comments (8)OK, I can understand no sheers on a heavy, 3" rod (unless in a Victorian, Igloochic). It's the middle ground that confuses me. For example, my current dilemma---I live in a no-frills, 1989 ranch-style house. The MBR (16' x 17' with 8' ceiling) has a double window 72" h by 80"w. This window looks out over our wooded yard and is one of the main reasons we bought the house. I want to hang simple, cotton panels and don't know what diameter rod I should buy. Below is a photo of the windows before we bought the house. Sorry you can't see the view. I'd appreciate your advice. Pat...See MoreCurtains: Rod Pocket or Rings?
Comments (20)One more reason to like the rings - with them, the top of the curtain sort of extends the line of the trim (see 1st picture), and together with the rod uncovered, creates a cleaner, stronger effect....See MoreCurtain rods for corner windows- help!
Comments (5)I have windows that meet in the corner just like that. You ask about getting on rod that is 'L' shaped but you would still need a "center" support in the corner for it to stay up and that would be awkward. I got my rods at Pottery Barn I believe. All I did was buy two rods that had removable finials. I put up two brackets over each window with proper placement and only put the finials on the outside ends having the rods set so they meet in the middle. Really, nothing special had to be purchased. I use rings for the curtains and they meet at the corner without any gap. If you are using curtains with the rod run through them then there would be a problem with the curtains meeting without a gap but that problem could be taken care of with a little cut in the curtain. BTW track drapes are "in" again and with a very updated sleek new look. These may solve someone's dilemma where windows meet at the corner. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/track-rod-window-hardware/?pkey=crods-finials Here is a link that might be useful: They are...See MoreRelated Professionals
