Help with cabinet tv conversion

I an trying to fill this giant cabinet shelf. colors are black, white and brown. I am not sure about orchid. also the brown zebra print just trying to incorporate brown. shoukd i remove some items? the large white bowl in the front os a candle

Yes you need to remove the items. I would try just the jug OR just the orchid OR just the black statue centered. No to the zebra print

I find there's too much going on with the orchid, I would remove it and place the items slightly more towards the centre.

Here are just my opinions, for what it's worth... #1. I don't dislike the look of the crown at the ceiling with the plain board inbetween, but if you have access to more molding in that color, an intermediary piece between (like one of the pictures beaglesdoitbetter posted) would be even better. I think the crown below the ceiling in picture 2 would look strange. But I have seen that done around a wall in a bedroom with rope lighting tucked behind and it actually looked kind of cool when it was on. #2 We mounted our small flatscreen under the cabinet on the wall with a swing arm at the end of our counter run before inbetween the kitchen and eating area. It pulls out away from the wall and swivels either toward the kitchen, island, or eating area. The remote and tv are on radio frequency mode, so the cable box can be put in the cupboard anywhere in the kitchen and the TV will still work. It may not be the greatest thing to look at on our backsplash, but we love our TV here because it is convenient to everyone. And when it is pushed back against the wall, it's unobtrusive enough. #3 I have always loved roman shades on big windows. Either fabric or bamboo/matchstick kind. #4 I love that style handle, but think it's too contemporay for your cabs, and doesn't really compliment them. #5 Because your granite is busier, I like tile choice 3rd from the left.

is there any way you can get longer window coverings? you have beautiful crown, and a very nice window, but those drapes are really too short. The rod should be hung higher and the drapes need to hit the floor I think you'll find it looks a lot better if you try it. and also, that current arrangement, sorry, it just looks awkward. the tv is too far over (I know you have to clear the door) and the sofa is blocking the fireplace, and it's off center (Plus, only the front portion of the sofa should be on an area rug of that size) I just think you could find a better fix. this is an entry way and shouldn't be used for the tv wall. .

Central fireplaces in long rooms are a challenge for decorating: If you make the fireplace a focal point, the two spaces on the end aren't really big enough to be useful; two seating area and you feel like you aren't using the fireplace to its best advantage; and three seating areas like you have feels a bit cramped. Personally, I would probably take it down to two seating areas and pull the two big chair into the living area with the sofa. If you stick with the three areas, I'd probably turn the chairs to face the fireplace. Your space reads "lodge" to me with all the wood. Lodge decorating schemes have a vernacular all their own, so something that would look dated in another house looks perfectly fine here. Your dining room lighting in a suburban tract home would look like a holdover from a misguided foray into faux Tuscan; in this setting they look like, "Oh, see how they chose chandeliers that kind of look like twigs to reinforce the rustic look." A lot of your furnishings look like they could be antiques (whether they are or not). It comes off as a conscious choice to embrace old-fashioned decor. That isn't the same as dated, which looks like it happened accidentally just because you haven't changed anything in 30 years. (Even if the latter is true, it doesn't look that way0. The road from lodge to coastal is long and expensive, and would involve changing the fundamental character of the house. IMO, it's never a good idea to fight the fundamental character of the house. Once you've decided on your layout, I'd start with rugs for the sofa group and the dining room. If you go with three areas, I might use rugs for the areas on the end and forego the rug in the center area. You can use the rugs to lighten up the space and obscure some of the wood.

Thanks to you both. A contractor has suggested to build a wall over the existing with sound rock, insulation and green glue, however in these cases I lose square footage, due to the new wall adding about 2.5-3" from existing. I understand too that the proper way to address this issue is to demo the wall, insulate and build new with sound rock/insulation/green glue. However both of these scenarios are pricey, and I have already completed significant renovations. Of course had I known about the noise issue I could have addressed during the initial work. Does anyone have experience with dampening blankets/curtains/wall panels?

There’s a nice art light inside that space. Do you have a framed print that just about fits the space? Wondering about art against the back & just the bowl with greenery in it in the front of art. Style it like a fireplace mantel.

I love KW PNW Z8’s suggestion of an art piece that fits the space nicely. The ceramic bowl is beautiful and is perfect for holding small items or for a plant. I like the idea of simplifying the smaller space with just a folded throw blanket.

Is that a fireplace to the right of this cabinet?

Rather than fighting for attention , i would look into removing

the built in cabinet and drywalling over it.

It will always look look like a dated TV cabinet, no matter what you put into it now.

Your latest attemp minus the orchids would look good. Use the rule of 3's. Four just looks off. Square the finial to face forward. I like seeing the low bowl overlap with the zebra.

For the lower shelf, remove all objects. Place three coffee table books with spines facing out.

Remember, less is more.

If it were me I would look into removing the ”Roman/Tuscan” half columns in the front. I feel they draw a lot of unwanted attention and you will always struggle to find decorating balance.

Your first photo looks the best.

Do you need the display space? Have you considered repurposing the cabinet to a bar? Add a glass shelf, etc.
