Dining room help?

I really am not a fan of our dining room. The wood is splotchy and has weird staining lines. I have thought about color drenching…but hard to figure out a color that works with the rest of the house. I just ordered a new light fixture. The kitchen looks into the dining room. The rest of the house is what I would call modern mountain with natural stone fireplace and wood paneling. Any thoughts to help the dining room?

I don't see any color in your pictures including your floors and backsplash. Find the wall liner that will make your walls smooth with out removing the wood panels. Get a can of paint in your favourite color. It's a place to start to add colour when you repaint other rooms. Oh dear I didn't see your photos in the other post until writing this. Your house is not modern mountain--it is modern here and mountain there and whatever-was-popular when redecorating all around.

Dining area looks very dark and I don’t think the new light fixture will give you enough light. I really like your artwork. Would you be able to sand the wood paneling and restrain to get rid of those lines? Are the floors in need of a deep/professional cleaning? If I had an unlimited budget, I would enlarge the window, enlarge the opening to the kitchen so it’s less of a separate room, and change the floors. With a more limited budget, I would get the floors professionally cleaned, get a light fixture that puts a lot more light out (and has a slightly cooler color temperature so that room doesn’t look as yellow), replace the backsplash (and not continue it past the counter where the garbage can is), and start looking for a lighter color table and chairs.

A round or square end table big enough to provide useful space for both sofa and loveseat would work, with a large lamp. I have a couple of live plants under a similar mini-split ac unit and also near hear registers and they don’t seem bothered as long as i don’t let them dry out. Some pillows that pull the color from the very pretty rug would be nice, maybe the pink? Or green? Drapery panels can often make the difference between a comfortable room and a cozy room that feels finished IMO. You might want to check out curtains in linen or cotton from Ikea or Target, they’re quite inexpensive and look decent for the money. Mount the rods near the ceiling molding and have the drape just barely touch the floor. You may have to shorten, they make iron on tape that make it easy to hem without needing to sew. A cream color would look nice with your gold-beige walls. Mount the rods wide enough to push the drapes back off the glass for maximum light and views when they’re open. You may never need to close them as you have blind for light and privacy control. hope this helps.

Light Silver Sage belongs to the Blue-Green hue family. Technically a complementary color would be a color directly across from BG (blue-Green) on the color wheel. In Light Silver Sage's case that's the 'warm' side of the Red hue family. For example. want something more saturated and brighte. Everything I look at is to blue or green. Depends on what you mean by more saturated and brighter - because that statement kind of contradicts "too blue or green". Let me explain why I'm asking. Saturated usually means more Chroma, colorfulness. So more saturated is saying you want something bolder, more colorful and not as neutral as Light Silver Sage. Brighter or brightness is technically about lightness. So if you want something brighter than Light Silver Sage, it's going to have a higher Value and look lighter.

Are they wanting to rearrange just to make this feel a little more complete? Is there another room that they use as a living room, or is this the entire main living space? If it's the main space and they watch TV and also dine, I think the way they have it currently laid out is close to what it should be. Sometimes it's hard to tell from just pics, but it seems as if the diing is next to the island in the kitchen area whch would be appropriate, and the rest of the space is used for casual living room. Are they looking to get something new/different for furniture or just wanting to rearrange? If you have measurements of the room on each side (or even better, a drawing of where the walls and doors are) it would help us visualize and give pointers on some better placement suggestions!

Is the barrel shaped light your new fixture? I do like it - & think it will increase the light in room if a brighter bulb used. Are you open to painting the ceiling in the dining area? That white would help.The ceiling & walls look yellow toned but don’t know if it’s your light color or what. What colors are in rooms adjacent to kitchen?

Here is the rest of the main floor. What isn’t modern mountain? I have a hard time getting rid of items from our previous house if they are still useful…such as the dining table. But I know that a lighter circular one would probably look better.

Perhaps a sideboard tucked under the artwork would tone down some of the wood. Would we be able to see the table turned the other way?
