I am using chrome in the kitchen, and polished nickel in the master (although I did switch to polished nickel in there on the door hardware because there was a logical place to do it - can't see brass and nickel at the same time). We don't have any doors in our kitchen really - swinging door to dining room is through the butler's pantry - but I don't have a problem with mixing metals if done well. Every magazine I look through has homes with either unlacquered brass or oil rubbed bronze hardware, and 99 percent of them use polished nickel in the kitchen. It looks great. I have even noticed many (like Brooke Giannetti) use chrome or polished nickel faucets, and then do a different finish on sconces in the bathroom. We did this in our basement - chrome faucet, oil rubbed bronze sconces, honed absolute black granite. I am not a fan of ORB faucets and I think choosing the right mirror will tie it all together.

Thanks everyone, your suggestions are much appreciated. I have so much to consider still, as the house is only block at this point. It's a ranch style stucco home, with square windows and columns so the direction is pretty much up to me. With the modern front doors that I chose , and the gray and white exterior with some stone, that I'm planning I think it's more transitional than modern or traditional. The furniture is a mix of Farm house and traditional, a lot of grays, creams. I plan on adding touches of black so I thought black doors would look nice. I'm up in the air with a lot of things, and putting the cart before the horse so to speak with the door color it may seem...but I'm being pressed about the door choice from my husband and if they are to be painted black I'll need to know soon. So thanks for all ideas, much appreciated. I'll decide soon:)

Diana, TY for the pictures - we like the casing with the band and the crown headpieces. We realize crown is not traditional shaker but thought a simple, clean headpiece would look nice and match the kitchen crown (cove) and new dining crown (TBD but also likely cove) which will be put up. The casing we choose will be used throughout the 1st floor with the exception of our breakfast area and adjoining family room - we'll likey change out these rooms later to match the new work. Patrica, The door to the right is a closet, the middle door goes to our garage and the door to the left goes to a study. FWIW, below is the kitchen floor plan. only the left door in the picture I posted is shown on this drawing. the other two doors are on the upper left wall. I love my artwork and always want that to be the focus when people come into my home. I don't want my windows and doors to be the main attraction, so I keep the contrast lower. When I did white walls, I matched the trim, ceiling and doors to the walls, using different sheens to give the illusion of different colors. That said, I have also seen amazing results by adding color to trim and ceilings. Haven't looked specifically at adding interest by changing door colors, but it would be a similar idea. I think black or a dark gray will be too much contrast and look stark and whatever you paint has to work with the art and décor throughout the home. Chantilly Lace is a pretty light white and can come off cold or sterile.
