Text wrapping around multiple images
Comments (4)â âââI think James is aiming for something like this. An advantage (and a disadvantage) and this form of layout is that it rearranges itself to fit within the confines of each particular browser window. Of course, a really neat way to use images in postings is to align them left and wrap the text around them as I am doing here. The thumbnail can be presented without a border as has been done here for this photograph of Discocactus subvridigriseus. The full size image can still be displayed via clicking. One of the problems with composing nice HTML in a Gardenweb post is that each GW page is composed within a table so even the best HTML cannot arrange itself correctly. The virtue of text wrapping around images is that detailed descriptions and information relating to them can be included. Plant pictured here is Discocactus crystallophilus. Even more frustrating is that the table width for the preview page is different from the table width for the page when you finally read the message, so everything gets mangled. This is the sort of dumb thing that a lot of web-generation software does, and it is one of the reasons that people do still write HTML by hand. Of course, anyone producing a commercial website should be using stylesheets anyway ... fingers crossed that this all works within the confines of GW. Of course, all this is only really necessary when a considerable amount of text, data, or descriptive information is needed to accompany multiple images. Comments (21)I don't know, Jon brings up some good points. ACS is a non-profit organization that is targeted to a very select group of people and is funded by its members. GardenWeb is a for profit organization that is targeted to the mass public. They pay for space including the price to optimize search engines (ever notice their presence when searching for cultivars and topics?). They have to pay for it somehow as we don't. GW brings in the masses and in many cases creates new gardeners everyday and in essence has a unique mission that so many look past on a daily basis. With all that said the moderators should be looking for ways to improve the user experience otherwise they lose people and clicks. I'd have a couple maples and spruces in my yard if it was for this site. I just can't hate on the space and ads for this reason alone. The lack of gardeners for my generation is an absolute travesty and anything out there that adds one more gardener is a win regardless. The only people I know that are passionate about gardening are all in their 50s or 60s. Rarely do I come across someone in their 20s or 30s. With the inventory of homes on the market, younger people are buying homes at a faster rate too...which makes this situation worse. Will, hopefully you can see the big picture and keep bringing your knowledge and discoveries to the table. There are more people out there than you think that you and many others influence everyday without even knowing. Oh, and just get a damn ad blocker, lol. Hold ctrl and scroll your mouse in or out to zoom the GW content. If you have a laptop your touchpad should be able to zoom in and out with "pinching" like on a touchscreen/iPhone....See MoreA Day Late; Sunday's Rain Splattered Photographer's work
Comments (11)Jean, Rita is a class AA enabler. Her garden is so ell tended and her photos are so beautiful, that you want to grow what she is growing. Mantis, thanks, I got my faithful and /true from emmerich after waiting a year it was not available for whatever reason. It always photographs the same here, but the eye is larger in her pictures which is why I wanted it...sometimes it takes several years to get "the look" though, we'll see. I really like it with the colors and it has bloomed much more this year. Anika, it is one of thoses whose look changes with temp and with moisture, I suppose...it does have a bit more pink evident, but it is always there. I moved the clump there in fall before last. The first year I had it it was patently unhappy. (3 years) Thnaks, Rita, that's the fun of it, isn't it whan there is more than one beauty. High prais efrom you, Debra, thank you. My roman Cohort was moved this spring, so the blooms are not quite their usual size...I expect return to normal next year. It is a beautiful bloom. kay...See MoreTub in master bathroom -- necessary or not?
Comments (28)I think the obvious answer for me would be to make it a tub with shower combo. I think separating the 2 elements takes up more space than is necessary and probably costs more. I'd much rather shower in my bathtub than to take a bath down the hall from the master. The tub also keeps the water from getting out of the shower. I have never lived in a house that had a separate shower and tub in the same bathroom, so don't see the great benefit. It is 1 more thing to keep clean and I'd rather use the extra space for a closet or something useful. If I had a huge house, then I'd consider separating the 2 functions. In our case, we bought our house with an ugly master bath. We assumed the shower leaked because there was a large crack in the floor tiles. We used the shower stall as a closet, pre-reno. We planned on adding a large air tub but could not make one fit in the space comfortably without giving up too much bedroom. We ended up making a larger half bath with no shower and are just fine with our decision. We have 2 other full baths in our house, so the 3rd was overkill. OTOH, both dh & I would love to someday have a a master bathroom that had a nice size air tub/jacuzzi. We are big time soakers and would get loads of use out of one. It would be nice to not tie up the family bathroom every time one of us wants to take a bath. A master shower is no real thrill for us because we get up at different times in the a.m.. I'd rather he not shower nearby while I am trying to sleep in the early a.m.. A tub is more a nighttime thing....See MoreRelated Professionals
