Horizontal Slat Wall

I’m contemplating a (diy) slat wall with shelves for books and plants in our living room and I would appreciate any feedback from others that have had one.
Do you like it, any problems……? Thank you!

Generally plants like to be near windows. this doesn’t seem like they would get enough light.

IMO a bit of a mess as that one is for sure. The one you show is totally unuseable as it is you need stand on the back of the sofa to water the plants no way does that work. Let us see your space to start but sorry not this idea . There really is no way to answer this without pics of your room and what plants and how big too much missing info.

My local lumber supplier has sold a bunch of ipÃ© for decking and outdoor furniture. The city I live in has a lot of park benches that they replaced the rotted out slats with ipÃ© and they have patinated to a nice light gray without any care or finish whatsoever. Sure, you can probably get something else for half the money, but then you'll be replacing it in a few years and be even, except for the labor to rebuild. The guy that sold it to them told me of his conversation: "Hello, this is the city of *******. We want some red oak to replace the wood that's rotted out of our outdoor benches." "We have red oak. I'd suggest just putting in a standing order for every 2-3 years because the new stuff is only going to last that long, no matter what you do with it. Ohhh what a lovely inspiration look. Seems like the accent wall was treated like part of the furniture for a cohesive look, Very calming on the eyes. The floor stands on its own and not trying to be so matchy with the accent wall, but both compliment each other nicely..

I don't know what stock you mean by "treated deck boards" to get 2"x8', whether 2x's or 5/4 decking, but ripping them you'll have an eased edge on one corner. In a design where you are trying to hold very strict tolerances, you'll go nuts trying to find straight enough boards without knots, and nuttier once they start to dry and shrink in ways you can't control and hold those gaps. If the inspo pic is what you are replicating, you'll have to use a high grade of wood, otherwise using treated is fine if you lower your expectations.

No, it won't look OK. And adding vertical lines to a wall that is already tall is not a good design choice. Vertical lines will make the room look even taller. Post images of the room. Maybe we can come up with some better concepts for you.

Here is a pic of the slat wall mocked up with paper, but on a much smaller scale. I would go lower and higher with more variations in lengths of slats. As you can see, it’s a large wall/corner that I feel could accommodate the slat wall idea. I would also use it for books, etc not just plants.

It makes no sense to me I agree the corner needs something but I need to see the whole space to understand that corner .. Take pics of the whole space post those here in comments just like you did then see what you plan makes sense from this pic and thta mock up no way.

As usual,responders are correct.Slats vibe as an eyesore fussy dust collector,difficult to access without contorting your body.
Ugh on all levels.
If you insist on slats,you may consider shelves to convert to a cat climbing structure.
That corner needs something heftier,and plants prefer all around light so pots can be turned periodically.
