Are the fan light turned on in your last picture?

@lisedv Yes, fan lights are on, in both pics.

if you want it all lit up, you'll need to add lights above and below the hood to get the same Light wash.

Are the existing lights a tape light or a fixture?

@Lyn Nielson Thank you for your question. Tape lights are under and above cab. Track light on ceiling.

Is there a piece of cabinetry, (like a finish moulding) covering the light tape above the hood? If you removed it, or cut a slit/space into the space above would it allow the light to shine down on the wall behind the hood?

it's definitely not a DIY fix.

in order to get the light to wash down on the tiles wall, you will need to remove the top Board and create a space between the wall and shelf to allow the light to wash the wall.

THEN to get the light to wash down further, the actual metal vent (where the filters are) would need a gap where it is attached to the wall.

My only DIY suggestion would be ... if there is a space between the metal chimmney and the wall, you could add a tape and hide it with a slim piece of moulding that matches the cabinetry, BUT that won't fix the shadow UNDER the Hood itself.

I feel for you, apparently you had a vision of your finished space and it just isn't up to your exxpectations.

Your tape lights should have been at the front of the cabinets. The current position seems to cause a "hot spot".

Here are mine, all the way forward. Also a continuous light and not dots.

The hood always has some type of shadow and the color of the light is also slightly different. I dim the hood lights to try to match the under cabinet lights.

I see nothing disturbing about a normal shadow on the backsplash, UNLESS you can not see the cook top. Yes the tape lights would be better at cabinet fronts, but seems to me the lighting over the island was far more bothersome and equally difficult to address with vaulted ceiling?

Do the lights on the hood fan adjust? I can keep mine centered straight down or tilt them toward front or back to cast the light where I want it.
