Tumbled marble backsplash, not sure anymore!
Comments (17)Marcy96, Love your space. Beautiful! ~boxer Hi Maryb2010, When I first started thinking about my reno. I had a few specific ideas, after 4 months those ideas changed. The more I am around kitchens, looking for my own planning, helping others, ides on GW... the more I see things I love and those ideas I had when I started have faded or changed. One way to start is to figure out your "Do or Die" list. What do you love? And it does not matter who else loves it but you and your DH of course. And from there plan your space. The Sweeby test is a great tool to help you figure out what your "Do or Die" is. It sounds like you love white, cottagey and that is a super start. And a search through FKB (Finished Kitchens Blog) on GW will help with seeing what others have done. FKB can give you ideas and help those creative juices spark. Here are a few white cottage kitchens with pale counters. And tumble stone marble bs are great. Get what you love! ~boxer...See MoreDoes a marble backsplash work w/ Cambria Torquay
Comments (22)I realize this is a late posting, but just in case in might help anyone, we just finished our kitchen remodel and the backsplash we used with the torquay was a white staggered mosaic opaque glass tile. The tile ended up with a grayish edge after grout was applied (see photo of sheet of the tile). That surprised us but it worked since it complimented the Torquay. I looked at backsplash tiles for a year and a half, including marble subway tiles, but always had trouble trying to find the right shade of white. We're very happy with our results. BTW, those are 20+ year old pickled cabinets that I didn't want to give up! This post was edited by bird2 on Sat, Feb 8, 14 at 8:06...See MoreBacksplash or no backsplash
Comments (20)So tired of hearing " but that will make it look dated" or "it wouldn't be good for resale" Everything is going to be dated at some point, the kitchen designers, cabinet companies and appliance companies make sure of that. Example: stainless steel appliances were just coming on the market 15 years ago when we gutted our kitchen for a remodel. It was hard for me to find stainless in my area at that time, I live in a small mid western town. So, have you noticed in the past few years appliance companies have been trying to bring out new colors, grayed looking stainless, now ice white etc. they are trying to make people think their stainless appliances are soon going to be "dated". But I have read in several articles that stainless is still the number one choice. I chose a cinnamon stained cherry wood for our new build. I thought about white because that is the trend right now, but I reasoned cherry cabinets will always be in style while the white trend Has just a few more years. I won't be a slave to trends. Just my opinion....See MoreHelp! I am not sure what to do with this backsplash
Comments (4)Drywall is cheap and easy to patch. I'd just take a metal scraper and start prying that bugger off. If you can't figure out how to patch the drywall, surely one of your contractors can! It really is easy. And cheap. Especially since you will be tiling over most of it, so you don't need a perfect finish coat. (Getting a perfect finish coat is the trickiest aspect, IME.) I had a plastic thing like that as a backsplash behind by utility sink, but mine was screwed to the wall so it was easy to remove without harming the drywall, and I can't see any screw holes in yours, so it was probably glued on. Even so, it might pry off easily enough and then you can just patch the drywall a bit, prime it, and you're good to go. Worst case, you trash the drywall, and you'll just need to cut the drywall to nearby studs, slap up a patch piece, tape and mud a few coats, and it'd done. In my reno, my contractors have had to do that to good drywall at least a dozen times, and one competent guy can get it cut out, patched, taped and mudded to finish coat in just a few hours work....See MoreRelated Professionals
