Creating a 'solid wall' in a GH for attching various widgets
Comments (2)Greenhouser: Until I replace my digital camera, I'll have to try to paint a verbal picture. Think of the vertical aluminum supports, (or polybars) in a GH as wall studs, except there is nothing between them but sheets of polycarbonate. Ergo, the only surface to which you can attach anything on the walls are the polybars, and to do that, presuming they have the usual channels; you need hex or T bolts. But your "wall" surface is still only a few inches wide, and each 2 inch wide bit of it, is about 2 ft. apart. So- you lay a board across them horizontally, attaching it to the polybars, and the result is a solid "wall" as wide as you want it and as high, top to bottom, as the width of the board. As I will be using one entire side of my GH for fish tanks, and it's a bit over 16 ft. long, we used 2- 8 ft. boards. It presents enough solid surface to give me space to attach water and air lines, and hang some bits and pieces of small items on it, yet doesn't present so much of a solid, opaque area as to affect the light coming into the GH. The boards are, as I have already described them, just standard sized 1 X 6's, but solid vinyl instead of wood. Does that help?...See MoreNeed a laugh? Try widgets
Comments (16)Did you see the $2M Christopher Peacock kitchen in the latest issue of Outrageous Kitchens? OMG, it had not one,not two, but THREE sterling silver widgets that were inset with pearls and rubies!!! I can only imagine how those babies quinckle! You MUST get that issue and drool away. Just one word of caution though -- as you salivate over that kitchen and those widgets, you could end up feeling as if your own remodel project that you have working on for your entire life is just so not "there." Don't! You can still have your own too-die-for kitchen with just one standard, yellow, squishy widget. In fact, I remember seeing that in one of kitchens on the FKB (sorry, I don't remember who) and thinking, "way to go!" We can't all be Peacocks. Nor should we. Do your own widget thing!...See Moredo we still love our widgets ?
Comments (24)That is just what I feared, kitchendetective. I know the code police are coming around my neighborhood looking for all the widgets that were installed prior to the implementation of the National Knick Knack Paddy Whack Widget Standard. Apparently, they weren't grandfathered in--in our area anyway. Well, I better start tearing out the floor then. At least I can get my foot out of the sink for the time being. terriks, I think they can be retrofitted, but depending on your area of the country, you may have to get new cabinets, but that is a small price to pay for an up-to-date kitchen. Just make certain that you have a real widget and not one of those made in China knock-offs. I already went through that once, and tearing down the walls and replacing all my outlets was very annoying....See MoreDroid or Iphone
Comments (18)I'm getting the new iPhone4S. My bosses and I work closely together and I do a lot of videos and picture taking that I send directly to him. We need to be in sync so I want us all to have them to save time. Having all the features I need on one piece of equipment is heaven. Apple gives great classes. I think you take 2 for the iPhone. It wouldn't matter to me if we got a Droid or the iPhone. I like to keep up with the technology and use it full force. Ravencajun's advice I would take without hesitation as I have followed her advice on the tech sites here. Buy what she buys and you can't go wrong. She has done her homework....See More- last month
