First House - Living Room Furniture Dilemma
Comments (9)Your paint color will need to go well with the wood flooring and trim. Is there some piece of the trim that you could take to a paint store and get advice on complementary colors? It's going to cost you a bit to paint that large space, so you want to get the color right the first time. I'm not so sure a blue-gray will work well with that trim, but I leave that to the color experts. It's a dramatic looking room, but it has challenges for furniture placement. The sectional that is there now looks like it fits in well. Any chance you might want to buy it from the sellers? If it were my house, I would be thinking of removing the wood stove down the road. (Unless you simply love or need a wood stove.) That pipe going to the ceiling isn't particularly attractive, especially with the kink in it. You could replace it with a direct vent gas fireplace that vented out the back....See MoreLiving Room color palette help needed!

Comments (6)that's a nice laminate. very neutral, as are the white cabs. Whats your furniture? wood, black, whites, metal, color sofa, any rugs, any art, coffee table,,,,,etc??? get a sofa/rug chosen first, then choose you wall color. ditto w/the countertop in your kitchen. easier to match paint to those items then to try and match those items to a chosen paint color....See MoreTo paint or not to paint...Judges paneling
Comments (71)Trends come and go, right now dark wood is out, and so in your mind your home looks dark. You bought that home for a reason, you loved the wood. Learning to decorate around the more permanent parts of your home forces you to be creative and makes a more interesting space, learn to see it as an exciting challenge. The floor is too light and so is the ceiling. It is actually the lightness that makes the wood feel so dark. Look up craftsman homes. They are only wood; pay attention to the paint colors. I promise you if you paint it all the charm will be lost and the room will feel too big....See MoreRelated Professionals
