Pendant lights 8 foot ceiling Yes or No
Comments (9)Marjoriest, not sure if this is late but I would suggest that you and your DH stand in that area - the pendant should hang one inch above the tallest ones head. You don't want to hit your head on the pendant each time you stand or bend over the island. I put mine over the dining table 24" inches below the ceiling - the 24" includes the pendant itself and the track. I am planning to do the same for my island. Here are links to my pendants when the lights are on and off: http://s767.photobucket.com/albums/xx311/Newyorking_ny/Kitchen/?action=view&current=256.jpg http://s767.photobucket.com/albums/xx311/Newyorking_ny/Kitchen/?action=view&current=269.jpg...See Moreheight of baseboard, floorboard w 8 foot ceilings?
Comments (10)In my 1870 house, the ceilings are 8'3" and the baseboards are 7 3/4". I think the post-war trend to narrow baseboards and trim was motivated more by the need to provide relatively inexpensive housing for a booming population than by aesthetics. If you're thinking of using crown molding, you should also have good-sized baseboards. Of course, with an 8" ceiling, you probably can't have wide crown molding. In my house, one of the PO's used narrow (2") trim at the ceiling, which looks good even if it wasn't original....See MoreMax height of baseboard with 8 foot ceiling ?
Comments (10)two answers Yes, there are classical proportions used by architects that provide guidelines for baseboard ( base is 2/9 the height of the "pedestal") and crown ( a proportion of the total entablature), based on the height of the ceiling. The book "Get Your House Right" explains this in the first few chapters in a way that made it interesting. You can buy 4 1/4", 5 1/4" base mouldings at your local lumber yard, and look at them in your rooms for a few days. When I replaced base for my friends we removed the mouldings in one room and installed temporary 5' sections in different sizes and profiles. This gave them a chance to "live with" a few base and crown choices for a week. There are a wide variety of base moulding profiles (page 22), each is probably offered in several heights. Going to a real lumber yard will generally give you access to mouldings that are higher quality that those in the home stores....See MoreKitchen lighting for 8 foot ceiling
Comments (4)Yes, it would go above the cabinets or crown molding. One possibility is to do cove lighting where there are no upper cabinets. Another possibility is lit crown molding. Other than that, you'd have to use flush mounts, pendants, suspended lighting bars, led panel lights ......See MoreRelated Professionals
