I'm going to do something like the first pic luckyblueeye posted above. A little conversation area, 2 chairs and an ottoman. When you say you like the table long ways....do you mean short end of table to short end of island? I think it looks a little odd but I don't know what else to do. I was thinking I'd get a large round table but I don't think I'll have enough walk room on either side of the table since I want to have my hutch and something else decorative on the other wall. I love having the table closer to the kitchen area though.

Maybe pull that sofa out from the window wall a bit and make a continuous walkway in front of the windows and all around the sofa that includes that small area. Why fill it up with anything? Let it be. Maybe move the dogs bed into that corner and out of the walk space that it appears to be in now. That is a surprisingly small room to be graced with such large windows.

Maybe it's the perspective of the photograph, but the sofa seems really far from the chairs. Could you float the sofa away from the wall, much closer to the window? Bring the sofa/coffee table/chairs into a tighter group that relate to each other. Then console table behind the sofa, under the art.
