Why would you do this to a coin...?
Comments (5)Grandma was right? Well then! I am humbled. One should never doubt one's grandmother! I will have to look into that coin tradition. It sure seems like a bad idea. This is definitely NOT my area of expertise! Linda, I've probably been to a restaurant with a sommelier, but I must admit I don't tend to have wine at dinner so I missed the wine guy! But I have my Halloween costume picked out now! Woohoo. Thanks y'all!...See Morewhy would they do this in a new, high end build, please?
Comments (1)Despite spending a lot of money, you can't have everything. There are different priorities. I would suspect that cement board was standard and the branded Hardie Backer was an upgrade. At least around here, cement board is code assuming you are talking a tile shower. Wood doors is a personal decision. Not a very common one because of the maintenance but they do class up a house. Most garages are hot. Insulation is not the issue. Garages are not routinely insulated in a hot climate. Everybody has different priorities and limited funds. I have a fairly highend home but they used pex on the toilet supply lines that you can see a small bit of. A "cheapout" for sure and you will find homes at half the price that use copper here but I personally don't care. Also over time, you see more and more corners being cut. Especially with the housing market. It doesn't have to be a big deal - as long as they are just aesthetic issues....See MoreWhy would a company do this?
Comments (12)This sounds very weird to me. I've frequently gotten similar solicitations. But usually, there is some nearly accurate fact written into it. For instance, they'll list the name of my original mortgage company (the mortgage was sold twice and later refinanced) and original loan amount (not the same as the loan amount for the refinanced loan.) It's easy for them to get this info as it's all public record. All mortgages are recorded in the county clerks office (in NJ.) I have never received solicitations where information was made-up. I can't see what advantage there would be to making up info (they might as well not put ANY identifying info.) And why would they spend so much money on certified mail that contained made-up info? It just sounds too weird. I wonder if these people are running some kind of scam? Although what it would be, I don't know. You might want to just call them and find out where they obtained their info. It wouldn't hurt, after all, they're not going to be able to talk you into buying anything, right? If you feel like spending the time, you could also check with the BBB and the county prosecutors office to see if there have been any complaints against them. You could also get your credit reports and check with the county clerk's office (or wherever mortrgages are recorded) and make sure that there are no open mortgages against your property....See MoreWood in the kitchen. Why does that get such opposition?
Comments (30)I agree with everyone else - if you love wood, go for it. My house is almost 100 and still has the original red oak floors. I also got crazy looks from KDs when I said I wanted not just to keep my wood floors, but to have all wood countertops, too (so of course I didn't hire them!). My current KD was totally open to the idea of going all wood, and now that it's done, he's going to come and take photos for his own album! I love the warmth of the wood (maple cabinets, maple BB with black cherry edging, finished with mineral oil - which I do have to apply about once a month or so). I do mop up drops/spills on the floors and countertops quite religously now as they are all newly finished. However, the 20 years prior to this reno, I wasn't so vigilant with mopping up the floors, and they survived so much so that if I hadn't moved a wall to open up the kitchen, I wouldn't have needed to refinish them. The wood finishing company told me the way to care for wood floors is to damp-mop them! So, yes, wood and water can and do co-exist. Good luck :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
