Help! Dormant oil mess
Comments (6)Thanks everyone. For now, after trying lots of things, I just concentrated on saving the bathtub, and put the sprayers outside still covered in a molasses-consistency oil film. I tried soaking it all in dish detergent, then bleach, then industrial disinfectant cleaner from Sam's Club, all hot water and cold water. None of them worked very much. The bathtub itself finally cleaned up with Ajax powder and a scrubbing sponge, but it took half an hour. Anyone want half a bottle of dormant oil? Comments (6)The best thing I've ever used has been Gunk Engine Degreaser. I use it on the garage floor all the time. Squirt it on, let it soak for about 2 minutes, brush with an old tooth brush and hose it of. When it's dry, you'll never know it was there....See MoreUpholstery Cleaning Question - Stain Removal Help Needed!
Comments (11)So far, I was able to remove the second stain (with the power bar); but am having difficultly with the first one (old brown bag lunch). So far, no water marks, but second stain area is still drying after I blotted as much as I could. The second stain seems to be more of a dryish stain, whereas there was something in the lunch (fruit I think) that had spoilt and leaked through the fabric. Looks like chocolate milk was spilt there, but there was no container in the snack when I found it. The location is not ideal either since it's in the seams, welting and zipper area. I hate to have to bring in an upholstery cleaner as other than this stain the sofa is spotless as we rarely use it. I am just really upset at my DD (she claims she did not stuff her lunch back there, but bag had her name on it). I can't figure out why it was put there--perhaps younger DD trying ot get older one in trouble, who knows. I would be less upset if they had been sitting there and spilled some food because at least it was an accident, but this seems deliberate and now may have ruined an expensive sofa. It's in the corner and completely hidden by the cushion so could be worse. Sometimes I get so upset with her disregard for our possessions--there are pen marks on the family room sofa which I have to get out from time to time because she sits there, does her homework, leaves cap off pens. Still she is a straigh-A student taking all honors classes, really good in many ways, no trouble with drugs, etc. so in large scheme of things, I suppose I should not complain.... Oh well, I've not given up I can get it out and may end up taking just the cushion to the dry cleaner or perhaps I should get the Folex and try it. I've used that before for carpets (when we used to have carpets). It always worked well....See MoreUpholstery Cleaning Suggestions for Fabric on Bar Stools
Comments (11)The others were chairs and not barstools -much simpler and I'm sure tons of youtube videos :) Very easy and satisfying, with the right chair :) 1) Flip your chair upside down 2) Unscrew the four (?) screws which hold the seat to the chair base 3) Remove the bottom black cloth if there is any 4) Pry out staples with pliers / large screwdriver (they come out quickly) 5) Remove fabric, marking top and bottom 6) Use fabric as layout guide, for cutting out new fabric 7) Center fabric and stretching tightly, staple to seat base 8) Replace black cloth if desired and put screws back on cp and steve - thank you for the Nature's miracle suggestion....See MoreRelated Professionals
