Can you identify this fruit tree?
Comments (4)Ramona: Can you post a photo, or a link to a photo? It'd be interesting if peanuttree is right on the medlar guess. Incidently, do you know what William Cobbett said about the Medlar in his 'American Gardener' (which was first published in London in 1821)? He said: 'MEDLAR. A very poor thing indeed. The Medlar is propagated by grafting on crab-stocks, or pear-stocks. It is, at any rate, especially in this country, a thing not worthy of a place in a garden. At best, it is only one degree better than a rotten apple.' Here is a link that might be useful: The Heirloom Orchardist...See MoreWill dwarf bruce plum tree have fruit without another tree or not
Comments (6)I did a quick Google search and got this, from the link below - "Bruce" Plums - The plum variety "Bruce" is a hybrid plum produced by crossing a Japanese plum with a member of another plum group, called European plums. A tree that can be 10 to 15 feet tall at maturity, it blooms in early spring, producing masses of small, bright white flowers. Somewhat earlier to ripen than "Methley," "Bruce" plums are usually ready for picking by the start of June. The fruit is especially large and has distinctly red skin and yellow or orange flesh. The variety is generally not self-fruitful and requires a nearby pollinator such as "Methley" or another Japanese-type cultivar for cross-pollination." Comments (0)Our family recently moved out to 12 acres and have 18 fruit trees planted by previous owner. Hoping to gain as much knowledge and insight as possible as my family becomes better educated. We haven't sprayed anything at this point and hope we can manage to get some production this year.
