What plant has heart shaped seeds?
Comments (11)A Native plant too to many part of the US too. That's if you have the seed for that exact species (Heracleum maximum syn. H. lanatum). Apiaceae is a big family and there are more than one species of Heracleum known as Cow Parsnip. If it were not for the fact this plant can cause skin sensitivities I would grow it. It is a very beautiful plant in spring, but prefer to enjoy it from a distance! Some vendors do sell seed :D PS...didn't you say your seed had just one darker line/seed down the center? My book says the seed of the H. lanatum (AKA H. maximum) has seed that are flattened on my side and rounded on other and has distinctive ridges, but no picture. Parts of the plant are edible and medicinal, but this plant can be easily confused with other members of this family like Water Hemlock, Water Parsnip and Giant Hogweed if not ID properly. I found this picture of Google images of the seed from H. lanatum (H. maximum). Hope this helps..... Vera Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreDH has heart attack
Comments (23)Bless you and yours, I know it is a stressful time for you. My DBIL woke my sister up Friday morning about 1 AM sweating and having problems breathing. At the hospital he was stablized and then had a massive coronary attack. He died about 2 AM and he was 41 years old. No high blood pressure or cholesterol. My sister's faith is strong and she is doing much better emotionally than I would have expected her too. I don't know if the sudden deaths are easier than the long illnesses. I have been thru both and both are painful. Rosa...See MoreThis plant has heart-shaped seed pods
Comments (6)Quote: "Shepherd's-purse is a winter annual broadleaf weed, but may grow all year in cool coastal areas of California. It is common throughout California to about 7600 feet (2300 m). It inhabits agricultural land and other disturbed areas. Its fruit has a peppery flavor and is sometimes added as a spice to salad greens. However, shepherd’s-purse seeds and leaves contain compounds called glucosinolates, which cause digestive irritation when consumed in quantity." Might use it sparingly then....See MorePurple heart has ant (?) infestation in roots
Comments (3)Root mealy bugs. And they are hard to control!! If the topgrowth is clean (and where there are root mealies, there are usually foliage mealies as well), I might try propagating a few stems or leaves and toss the old plant. And all the soil!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
