Should we change our cabinet layout in open kitchen/living room/nook?
Comments (2)I can't save your screen shot (?), so I did a quick estimation of the kitchen space, using as much of the existing layout as possible. I put the fridge near the dining nook, but that wall could be flipped, with the fridge next to the DR. That would keep the clean-up area completely separate from the prep/cooking areas, but the DW door would open partially against the end of the peninsula: Everything on the clean-up wall flipped: The black arrow is for corner storage that's accessed from the back of the cabinet. Or it could be accessed from the FR side, and since you have a table nearby, the peninsula could be extended over a run of cabinets, to increase storage and make up for the lost pantry and hanging cabs. I gave you a KW mixer. :) Back with one more--if the door to the formal DR could be moved to the hallway, the range wall could be extended, and a wide island with prep sink would work. Except for storage in the middle, drawers in the second run of cabinets in the island would have easy access from the ends. Optional upper cabs beside of range hood. (Contingent on the hood being vented as in the current kitchen.) If anyone else wants to borrow this plan to experiment, please feel free....See MoreNook in Living Room, what to do?!
Comments (6)Unless you have a gob of books, I'd just use a bookcase against the 55" HVAC wall or on the TV wall. I'd prefer a pretty backless settee in the window with a game table and a pair of straight chairs. That would be more flexible than anything built-in and might serve well as a dining area if you don't have a formal dining room. This leaves the wall opposite the fireplace open for some beautiful art hung 5" above a nice console or credenza. Optionally, you could place art over a slim table where you now have the TV and turn the sofa around to face the longer wall with the TV above a low credenza 25% wider than the set....See MoreNeed help with a nook in the living room.
Comments (4)Will you share a photo of the decor in the rest of the room? Your shelves are nicely arranged but the delicate shelves and small accessories are being swallowed by the space. If the rest of the room is fully decorated, I would move the shelves and fill the nook with art or a fabric piece. Three large related pieces or one big piece. If the rest of the room is bare (just a rug and sectional), I would concentrate on getting sofa pillows, art, side tables, lamps and accessories for the "people" area and then decorate the nook....See MoreGreat room/nook/dining area layout help
Comments (1)How many people need to eat at a table? You have space for a cozy nook IMO Or maybe a cozy reading nook. Can you open up some of the space under the stairs to create more depth or space for book shelves behind the seating area?...See MoreRelated Professionals
