Viking, Sub-Zero, et al. Really better or just snob appeal?
Comments (65)I've had my SZ since '99 when the price tag didn't bother me. Now, its up there. I have a few friends who are realtors who tell me I've added to the value of my house as SubZero has such a great reputation. Even with the mechanical complexity of the ice on the door, I really haven't had any failures once I figured out that you have to switch from a Culligan Reverse Osmosis water purifier to a Kinetico Quickflow for the Ice maker to keep from overflowing. With the low water pressure of the Culligan, I had to manually defrost the icemaker when I tested to see if the freezer really can go below zero. Back in those times, the SZ was the only fridge with ice on the door that consumed less than 900Kw/H a year thanks to the air lock on the door dispenser and having two separate compressors for fridge and freezer. My house is solar, so that was very important to me. If water on the door dispenser stops flowing, you set the fridge temp below 34 and it froze. You can't leave salad stuff outside the crisper even at 34. It will freeze and decay quickly. Same thing with fruits like strawberries. They go bad faster if they start to freeze. My beer has never been as cold and delicious since it started resting in the meat drawer. Your mileage may vary. My other appliances are a beloved F&P dishdrawer and an AGA cooker. But, thats another thread....See MoreSub Zero Stays, Best Counter Depth, Bottom Freezer & FAUCET?
Comments (8)WOW, Thank you all for the Lowe's Coupon resources! We will be using them soon, no doubt! Guess we should be filling out the change of address, this week. We are moving almost an hour away, so this is not an easy move for us! So many recommendations for the Samsung, will have to get to the city and see these, this week! We currently live in the country and it is time consuming and lots of gas to go Anywhere - and our Grandchildren have all moved to the city, so we are following! Traveling over the snow and ice last year really convinced us and we were missing too many events with them! fabb - your Jenn Air sounds wonderful, also - where did you purchase it and what is the approximate cost? How did you decide on this brand? I am so used to the single door and the freezer on the bottom that I did not even consider any other styles - but lots of you have the French Doors! Is it difficult to open the French Doors while you are holding the item to be put into the Frig.? We will only have a small counter next to the Frig. But I guess that I can learn to juggle! Please keep posting all of your ideas, moving day is just 5 weeks away! Need some suggestions for the best way to PACK all of this household!! We will need a large moving van for furniture, large heavy boxes and patio swings, etc. But all of the clothes that we do not want get dirty, do we just pile it into the car and make multiple trips? And, of course, he is packing our wedding china very carefully and these kind of precious breakables will also have to be taken in our car! But how do you pack ALL of the Kitchen, large food Pantry and Bathroom/Linen closet items!! Oh and there is all the stuff in the office, yikes! We will be so happy when ALL of this is UN-packed and we are living to just visit the children, go to work and walk the Dogs!! Any Ideas for making the move by organizing and for ALL the packing to go smoother are very welcome! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. roseofblue...See MoreSub-Zero has to be kidding
Comments (100)I'm still not understanding that everyone seems to think that companies should offer discounts??? The promotion is basically a thank you purchasing more than one appliance. If you're being met by sales people pushing it like its a selling feature than go to another dealer. I sell these appliances and don't even tell people about this promotion until after they purchase then I say "when we deliver your appliances you can go online and register to pick out a couple of free appliances for your counter as a thank you" That is what it was designed for. A discount should only matter if you have already planned on buying the exact product it's offered on. Otherwise you are ONLY buying due to a discount not really weighing the benefit and value of the product. Plus most of the appliance companies do free bee like a free dishwasher.... Did you ever stop to review that free product? It's usually the one they sell the least because it's inferior to the other brands. Why is love to know when the discounting started and why so many consumers think that everything should be on sale in order to purchase? Here's an equation: The lowest price doesn't =the best quality...See MoreSub Zero or GE Monogram?
Comments (29)Refrigerators must be a personal thing! When I was looking (at sxs and columns), I really disliked the SZ..... the lighting, the drawers, almost everything. I did like the Thermador and I did like the Miele. My ideal was a Thermador fridge and a Miele freezer because of a combination of price and interior. In the end I decided on the Miele because I much preferred the freezer, the lighting and the door configuration of the Miele. It probably also helped that Miele offered a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty offer when I ordered. :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
