I prefer to match the grout to the tile color.

Here is a visual of what I’m using

Lyn Nielson I feel the same its just the tile is very unique and I’m having hard time finding grout that would match. Honeybutter might work but not sure :/ im worried it might be too pink ?

if you plan to tile the backsplash, leave off the 4" curb on the countertop, they are not meant to be together. One or the other.

I would not do bone grout with the mosaic; you're better off with Frost, same for the wall tiles. That said, may be change out the herringbone floor idea. You have different styles in same space for a pulled together look.

    the honeybutter looks very pink.

Avalanche would be a better option.

Thank you everyone for your inputs. Lyn I think I like avalanche better too

The herringbone is much lighter than what is shown in the picture it also has some warmth to it.

The herringbone marble tile does not look like it will work with the faux zellige tile that you've chosen for the shower.

Someone on Houzz installed this oat tile sometime during the past 3-4 months or so.

It worked well with Taj Mahal countertops (warmer).

It seems like your double herringbone tile would look more like the marble hexagons below with Taj = not a good match because the marble is cool and the Taj is warm:

Here is an un-doctored photo of your backsplash tile installed by a customer. It looks pretty gray (cool) in the photo.

I would take photos in the actual room that you're using the three tiles you've selected with all three next to each other (both in natural and artificial light). That way you can make sure that the faux zellige oat tile will work with the marble double herringbone tile + shower tile. Make sure that you pull out a lot of the zellige oat tile since it has a high variation of color between pieces of tile.

Consider the same zellige tile in larger size for the floor to do the herringbone pattern.

My advice always keep bathrooms simple and elegant 12 x24 porcelain tile on both bathroom floors and showr walls the same tile only smaller for shoer floor. The color thta works with the tomes yu love so warm or cooll this along with white toilet , and sink allow a nice counter and if you must a trim tile for the backspalsh This allow you to cahne wall color, accessories and even thta backsplash and counter easily for a change . I think those tiles do not work together and never IMO real and fake stone together I think herrinbone is great but also quite a statement and one of those things one day you will look at and say what was I thinking . Then yu add in one more element with the wood my answer start over

This is the same herringbone done with a warmer palette

Even the picture I posted above is way darker than what it actually looks in person. In person it looks much warmer and lighter. I will take everyone’s advice in mind,
I might decide to change but personally I love how they look.

I like the herringbone with that classic marble above -

I think part of it for me is the zellige feels more organic modern (it's imperfections are part of its charm and current popularity) -- whereas herringbone feels crisp and classic, and a touch formal - but everyone likes different things for sure

Is the zelliege oat pearlized finish?

Mandy - it may be that the tone of the herringbone tile and the faux zellige tile actually do work together. My comment was just based off how they look on my monitor (and with what materials other people paired them) - not in person. You are in a much better position to see what the colors look like in real life (plus, with the lighting in your bathroom).

That's why I suggested putting all of the tiles together in your bathroom and taking some photos (in natural light and with artificial light). The faux zellige oat tile is similar to Bedrosian Cloe tiles which have a v4 variation = lots of color variation in a box of tile.

Luckily, you can purchase an entire box of the zellige oat tile from F&D in order to see how many/types of shades there are (I've seen another of F&D's zellige tiles - one that is similar to Bedrosian's Cloe White tile - posted here on Houzz - and it has a lot of color shades - someone said around 10-16!)

If you decide not to use the zellige oat tile, you can return them to F&D because the tiles are sold by individual pieces. An entire box will allow you to see what shades (and how many of each shade) to expect in boxes you purchase for your project (although - be VERY careful about looking at the run numbers on the boxes - there will be different color runs = the tones can be a little/a lot different between boxes from different color runs.

You should take several photos with many of the zellige tiles laid out with the herringbone mosaic tile placed on top of the zellige tiles - trust me, photos capture the variation between the tiles better than just looking at them with your eyes. When I received my Bedrosian Cloe White tile boxes, I opened the first box and was disappointed because I didn't see much variation at all when I put them out on my island. HOWEVER, when I took some photos of the tiles, all the variations became much more obvious.

If you'd like to post the photos for us to see them, that might be helpful. Seeing the actual tiles together in the actual room where they will be installed is important (even though monitors won't show all of the colors the same). If your photos don't accurately show the colors, then you will need to either correct the photos in order for them to be more accurate OR you will need more eyes of people who can see them in real life (people who are good with putting colors together - some people have great talent for that while other people are terrible at distinguishing between different shades/tones).

I would match the color of the herringbone tile in a penny tile for the shower floor… so it has a seamless flow from shower floor to bathroom floor…. marble really is not the best for in a shower look for a ceramic tile.

Excellent advice above^^^. Not an expert, but after reading about the problem so many have with penny tile, I would not use it, especially for a shower floor. Many, many, many people on this site and others report problems with penny tile being difficult to set correctly, and having so much grout on the floor of a shower seems problematic. I suggest you do some careful online research before you commit. Also, having three different tile patterns in one bathroom might be very difficult to coordinate. F&D is not known for high quality, either, as I understand it.

Everyone was right about the cool tone and warm tone clashing. This is the tiles together in my bathroom

Dani _m08 your advice has been very helpful thank you so much. We wont be visiting the house until the weekend its about an hour drive. But I think it’s safe to say the cool tone isn’t best with the oat zelliege. I didnt take the different color variations into account. Im just glad I was able to get this great advice from everyone before I made a design disaster.

Look for a warmer herringbone for floors and in bigger scale…smaller for shower floor but both in same color…redoing a bathroom has its challenges..we just finished our master bath last year….we used floor and decor for our shower and really saved some money..we went with 24x24 wall tiles..so easy to keep clean! and ceramic basketweave shower floor..we went with wood herringbone floors! protected with a heavyduty waterproof stain.

Hi Mandy, I'm looking to install F&D Zellige Oat and the choices they have are the Light Almond (which looks white on their display at the store), Honey Butter (looks too pink to me?), and I've heard Avalanche. I have not seen the Honey Butter nor Avalanche installed with the zellige oat.

Anyone else have used any of these?

  • last month

Hi T Sal I ended up going with Mapei Biscuit for the grout. I have not had it grouted with it yet. Should be done by the weekend. I can update you and show you what it looks like after grouted. Fingers crossed 🤞 I used the mapei sample board with a interior design person and both of us thought the Biscuit was an exact match. Now I know that some has said mapei comes out 2 shades lighter but even if that happens it will look great I think.

We did frost on the main floor since we had leftover frost from the other room. We are happy with the end results.

Looks like you selected the perfect grout color for your Oat Zellige tile! Also, the Oat Zellige tile is much prettier once installed - the color variation between the individual tiles looks really nice.

Did you use white quartz for your shower curb + around your niche + vanity countertop? Do you know what the thickness is for the material used around the niche? I think it's a nice size - some of the niches I've seen that have been outlined with a white solid material (quartz?) have been too thick - I like the size you've used for your niche.

I've been dealing with some health issues - and I need to finalize my primary bathroom. I used honed Carrara tile for the shower walls + 42" high on the walls around my freestanding tub. My bathroom floor is a charcoal slate tile from Brazil (4x12 in a herringbone pattern). I feel like a solid white curb/surround and shelf for niche/vanity countertop would be a good selection because I feel like I have enough marble in the bathroom already.

FYI - I saw the comment someone made above re: F&D tiles not being very good quality. I'm sure that some of their tiles are a bit lower quality - just like at other big box stores. I've never been to F&D (or purchased tile from there) - it just bugs me how people throw out disparaging comments without having any first hand knowledge/experience.

Also - it's funny because when Bedrosian Cloe White tile (a faux zellige tile just like the Oat Zellige tile you installed) was ridiculously popular a few years ago, some people were able to substitute a basically identical tile that they found at F&D (Cloe White was out of stock/back ordered at most stores at the time). One user sent photos of the tile from F&D laid out next to the Cloe White samples that she had - and she said that they looked identical (and had the same "Made in Spain" stamp on the back of each tile as the ones from Bedrosian).

After doing some research, I discovered that Equipe Ceramicas actually manufactured the Cloe tile for Bedrosian (as well as for several other sellers- who each rebranded it under their name). People who wound up using the Adessi tile from F&D because they couldn't wait for the Cloe White tile to be back in stock all commented about how the F&D tile was a nice quality (it also cost more per SF than the Bedrosian Cloe white tile did - until Cloe white tile jumped from $6.99 sf to over $11.00 sf for several months due to the crazy demand for it!)

I was happy to see that @Home Interiors with Ease posted a comment about using F&D tile in her shower during her bathroom renovation. The photos of her bathroom look very nice - plus, she is a design professional (with a beautiful home based upon several photos that she's posted) - and she wouldn't use a "cheap"/low quality tile just to save a few bucks!

Dani sorry it took me a while to respond I just had a baby and house we are renovating is pretty far from our current home. I asked my husband to measure thickness but he only measured depth of the niche 🤦🏼‍♀️ I will attach that photo hopefully it can help you with the sizing. My husband said he believes it is 1/2 and inch or a little less in thickness.

For the material I believe our contractor used engineered marble for the niche and curb he got it from home depot. The vanity came with the countertop its the Dylan vanity from floor and decor. I will also attach the finished bathroom. We got all our tile from floor and decor and also our vanity and they feel extremely high quality and even our contractor commented that everything feels amazing quality.
