Wow...that one is incredible! severnside - yours looks GREAT! It's so nice and full!! Mine is currently heeled in with no home yet. Trying to revamp the yard this year in between working 60 hours a week and it isn't going quickly. UGH. Had a little inner needle die out initially but it is looking thoroughly happy now. I couldn't figure out why the browning, etc and then - duh - realized that it must have actually rooted at the nursery and they had to cut it out., I was panicking but now that it has stabilised I can breathe again. (ahhhhhh!!! scary!)

Hi Barbara.Thanks for the link.On my plant the needle ends look like they are scorched;then again in the sunshine they appeared copper-coloured.We'll wait and see...I think those mugo's are great.Henk sent me 'Laarheide' and 'Zundert'.Also a yellow P.sylverstis of Norwegian origin.Just waiting for spring so I can go out there and do some gardening.I think we moaned and groaned a bit too much about the continual drought during the past five years .So now we're getting well served...the soil can take no more.Just saw on the news that one of the best known ski-resorts has had upwards of 8 meters (25 ft)of snow.People can't get in or out of the place.That said,I also saw the terrible fire-storm images from Australia...I sometimes think of the fire-hasard with conifers and other inflammable plants.It can get so dry in summer! I'd hate to see those little mugos go up in smoke!!! T.

is the Pinus densiflora 'Sunburst' the same as 'Taylor's Sunburst' ===>>> not in any sense of the word ... TS is a spring bud yellow.. the others are winter yellow.. besides the obvious that they are not in the same pine family ... since TS is a contorta .... that said... winter yellows are yellow in winter .. and green in summer.. aka.. boring in summer ... i doubt there is any significant summer difference between any of them ... to normal humans.. as compared to us here.. lol ... i would go with the cheapest of the lot.. and skip the name game ... i would also wonder if any plant with the name POINT.. is all yellow needled.. or just the point???? otherwise i have no knowledge about the one you ask about ... there are a few mugos with just yellow tips.. maybe pal maleter or per golden .... if i recall correctly ... and that is questionable [my recall i mean] ... there is also p. m. aurea.. which is turning into one of the better ones in my yard ... and probably.. based on the old latin name.. older than dirt .... ken

Beautiful plant, Dave! 'Jakobsen' has slightly crested growth and that is what causes the plant to appear exceptionally dense in places. Crests are a fasciated growth (fan like) with a stem that is wider than normal. This type of growth is quite common in cacti and succulents, but not so common in woody plants. There are a few conifers with crested growth and there is one pictured in a recent thread by toucanjoe (The plant is labeled as Pinus thumbergiana 'Ogi Matsu' and the correct name is Pinus thunbergii 'Ogi-matsu', per coniferjoy.) I have this plant, but it's being shaded by my Larix kaempferi 'Diana' so I need to see if I can dig it up and move it to more sunny conditions. It's a beautiful Mugo pine. Mike
